The weather was kind of hazy, and the photos are untouched. Any suggestions, because the weather will not be working with me, about times these are due.

the weather is always perfect - thats my motto.

take the second shot crop it down so there is only a sliver of sky. Submit

The first one I asked for permission before I took the photo, and on the second one I shot from a bridge. I plan to take everyone ideals into consideration and retake both photos. Thank you!

The first image, I would get down lower to the tracks, maybe between them, with a midrange wide angle. This way, there would be no distractions on the sides and you would loose all that negative space in the sky. If

If possible, I would shoot the scene when the tracks are wet.I would not get so low as to be below the rails.

If you're able to re-shoot, get the tracks out of the center. Go for a more diagonal shot, coming in close to a corner, and going out towards the opposite corner. Shoot both horizontal and vertical images, at each location, as well as under different lighting conditions...gives more choices in the end.

Remember, images on digital media are cheap, shoot, shoot, shoot!

I like #2.

If I were to crop it...I would crop out the right side leaving the forward standing tree and getting rid of the tree covered with vines...that would put your tracks off center as well.

good luck

I like the second one but agree that if you could get down onrto the track and include more rail (without getting a fine or ending up in jail!) then it would turn out just fine.

I am most fascinated by the split in opinions as to which is the better photo. I go with #2 because it is a refreshingly different view of something we have all seen a million times. Ask yourself: Do I want an exact physical representation of where I was, or do I want to provide my viewer with a (literally) different angle on a common subject.

This is why railroads don't want people on the tracks. Sisters were taking pics of the fall foliage when hit and killed.

If track is the assignment then use #1 and lay the camera on top of the left rail and shoot. Make it the focal point where it takes the bulk of the image, the rails.
