Class assignment on train tracks which should I choose
The weather was kind of hazy, and the photos are untouched. Any suggestions, because the weather will not be working with me, about times these are due.
Proposed Atlanta Belt-line 1
Proposed Atlanta Belt-line 2
#1, a few steps closer to eliminate sign and guard rail, perhaps b&w?
I like the 2nd one, the high angle is different, could try a vertical shot, might add some depth.
The first one.....removing signs is a goo idea, especially the one on the left that goes out of the image. Boost the color a tad..........looks good. The second one, good idea to try a vertical crop, as is it looks incomplete.
Second image has more appeal in my opinion. I like the exposure better and the composition is superior to the first.
Only my opinion, but I think #1 is a better shot then #2. With #1 Crop the left side to remove the sign and crop the right side to remove the barior. Then if it is allowed enhance the color just a little. And again just my opinion.
If you could or have the time to, I would go back to the site of the second one and take a shot down on the tracks (instead of being on the bridge) in the same direction, but with the camera vertical instead of horizontal and try to use the rock walls as a frame for the picture. Just an idea and only an idea, you can take it or leave it.

the weather is always perfect - thats my motto.
take the second shot crop it down so there is only a sliver of sky. Submit
Thanks for the advice its a great ideal, using the sides as framing and shooting from below.
I noticed the first photo should have been cropped after I uploaded it. I really appreciated all the feedback, thank-you.
I like the 1st one also. Sloppy Joe has some nice ideas. You could also lie on the tracks or just kneel to have more of a story effect.

Based on your info, I would chose the top one.
In the bottom, the tracks are only, a very small part of the image.
If there is a third option, like Sloppy Joes, get down low and fill the frame with tracks. Outside the track with the ends of the ties showing would be better. Try different angles, views.
Oh!!! Watch out for trains!!!!!

Not be be a wet blanket here, but check your state laws - in most states it is illegal to trespass on the railroad right-of-way. Photographers have been fined.
Even abandoned tracks are probably still private property. The railroads see it as a liability. Should you (or a client) get hurt, they see a lawsuit coming.
If this is a class assignment, I would question if the instructor knows the local laws. It might not be a big deal - it might be exposing his students to legal action!
OH - I like the first one.
#1 for me. I find it hard to see the tracks in the second. I agree, if allowed bump up the color and maybe even increase the contrast a bit to give it more depth. Do either clone or crop out the sign and railing. I don't know if you might want to also remove thr little signs along the track. along the track. Nice shot! Also, if you do go onto the track, be aware that if you are upwind from the train you will not hear it coming. I learned this when my dad came close to being hit in that situation. He says he never heard the train.
If you can, weather and legal issues, shoot the first one again with a vertical orientation. Don't forget to make the adjutments other have already mentioned. You might try using a CPL to help saturate what color that is in the first photo. I like the composition of the first better because it takes you to the unknown around the corner, adding mystery and anticipation. The first one tells a better story.
