iv searched but cant find a way to tether a nikon 500 to my android tablet..any ideas??thanks
I don't know but is there perhaps an app you have to download first?
Camcap lets you contol camera from tablet droid app
Is Camcap a app in Android or website?
Check out cam ranger, I am using it on a 7000. With I pard mini I think they do android too. It's great, love view, set all exposure modes and settings also allows my 7000 to,take an HDR with 9 shots to the 3 Nikon limits me too. I have been using it to shoot stars on these cold nights while I sit inside watching TV.
It sets up a local wifi network
looks like cam ranger is only for ipad-iphone use, thanks

Your Android tablet has to be capable of being a USB host. Several Samsung Galaxy devices support this, most other tablets don't. Google your tablet model + USB host to find out. Also see this post:

Do a Google search for "nook usb hot mode" and read any about your model. From what I see some Nooks are able to do host mode. If yours can you MAY be able to use helicon for remote control.
