For a bare bones w/layers photoshop type application one can try it at this URL, and it's a free online thing. Just some FYI here.

Hi,

Thank you for the link to the magazine.

It does not work as listed but I figured it out. You need to back up on the link to the end of "com", start the order, and put in "Hazel" as the discount code. It works and gives the $10 discount. Thank you for that!

Regards,
Larry Leach

My personal opinion -- Elements 9 or 10 will do 95% of what "Photoshop CS" does. I teach lots of Elements seminars and classes, and yes, you can do layering, masking (introduced in version 9), and just about everything else you can do in CS. You can do actions, plug ins, and more, with Elements. There are LOTS of tutorials out there on the web if you need help. And I like the book by Scott Kelby & Matt Kloskowski "The Photoshop Elements 9 Book" (Amazon is taking pre-orders for v.10 coming out soon). Another AWESOME resource is the Elements Techniques Magazine -- 6x a year with great tutorials; over 800 tutorials on their members-only website; member galleries and freebies when you subscribe. Reg. price is $59 for 1 yr; $99 for 2 -- use this code that I've set up for students and friends and save $10 (you'll see the discount appear when you click the button for 1 yr or 2); http://store.photoshopelementsuser.com/cart/checkout/subscription/HAZEL.

Hi, Folks

The WEB site that comes with this is awesome. It has all the back issues that are full of videos and great articles.

This is going to keep me busy a long time!

Thanks again, Hazel.

I have both on both platforms since I teach it. Most Photographers will only need elements. All the nik, topaz filters work with both. The only real difference I have run into in photography usage is layer masks. PS has a button that can add a layer mask to any layer, while elements does not have that ability. There are work arounds to accomplish this ( extra steps). since I use layer masks all the time ps is my main program for this type of editing. For organizing and doing a great deal of editing on I actually use lightroom people here will tell you that it does basic editing, they do not understand how to use the program. I do 90% of my editing in lightroom then switch to ps when i need layer masks, then back to lightroom since it has better sharpening and output

I was using elements 8 with great satisfaction until I wanted to have a publisher print some adobe files. They require CMYK files and elements 8 would not do that. So I got CS5 extended. I still like the way PSE8 does some things better.... Depends on what you want to do. I don't know if PSe9 or 10 will do CMYK mode.

For the Mac users the "Graphic Converter" app at this URL will do CMYK file formatting, as well as convert almost any format to any other format.
