I have CS2 and recently purchased elements 9 for my laptop. Elements 9 does a lot but CS2 or higher is better for me. Only you can decide, good luck.

what does CS2 do that you like that elements 9 does not?

How easy was it to learn CS over elements ? was it easy to switch to?

There are more brushes on the CS 2 to use. It wasn't easy for me, I had to buy the CS2 for Dummies and taught myself with trial and error.

just my personal opinion,......but after using Elements for many years, and reading books on "photoshop"...and watching tutorials on "photoshop".....I have found very few features that Elements lacks when compared to it's big brother. I have added custom brush sets, and extra plug-in filters, and feel so comfortable with it that I personally would not ever go with the latest FULL Photoshop version myself. For those that have, I am sure it has been worth your while and I don't mean to take anything away from your decision. Just sharing my two cents worth on the issue....

The program you will use depends on your needs. What type of photographs are you creating? If you have the tools you need in one, why go for the other? I do portraits and Elements 5 was my tool until my son brought me v.8. Later, because an offer I couldn't resist, I upgraded to v.9. So far, I have seen no need for Photoshop CS.

However, there are other programs that could give you more tools such as DXO. The cost, I think, is less or the same as Elements. Check it out.

So, look at what you want to achive on your photo work and decide. Remember, these are tools and the programs bring so many that, most of the time, you don't use them all. Don't buy just to say, "I have..."

Yes, Fifty, you can create photos like that one on Elements. I created this one on v.5.

Hi Lisa,
My husband bought me Photoshop.... it was so overwhelming that I hated using it.
When we switched to mac, I bought Elements 9 and and am thrilled with it. When I get stuck, a friend with photoshop shows me how he does stuff, and so far, I've been able to do the same stuff.

If your looking for a more versatile program you might consider Lightroom 3. Years ago when I purchased my first state of the art 2.1 mega pixel camera I received the home addition of Adobe Photoshop Elements. I loved it it but I was always wanting to do more than the program would allow. Better things came with every new software update. I can't remember when I made the switch to Photoshop but I have to say it is an amazing program! Do you need it to edit your photos, absolutely not! If you haven't considered Lightroom3 maybe you should take a look at that program. It has really improved with it's latest release of LR3. As far as it's development (photo editing) module it uses the same features as adobe camera raw. The program also helps you keep track of your photos. I hope I haven't confused you too much with my rambling on.

I use elements 9 and I'm still trying to learn it. So anything more advanced is not for me...(at least not yet) I too have used plug-ins on the brushes etc.
