[quote=flbeachgirl][quote=Bmac]Hi Folks,
I intend to road trip thru Northern Florida from Jacksonville west to Pensacola and then loop back.
Forgot to mention.........If you go 30 miles West of Pensacola to Gulf Shores, AL they have a wonderful Dolphin Cruise....inexpensive and the Dolphins flock to the boat :) I'll probably think of more things as my brain slowly gets into motion...

I would appreciate anyone letting me know interesting places to visit or photograph. My interests are many and varied and I like to photograph all subjects. Also, any good fishing spots (fresh or salt) you could tell me about or unusual places to stay would be great.
The trip will most likely be in April and most of the time will be spent in the Panhandle. Thanks in advance.

Lots and lots of guidebooks on touring Florida. Bookstore or library are great places to consult. Even great fishing guides available.

Thanks, though I was looking for more personal recommendations from members who live in the area. Many times residents give the most valid and true information. :-D

Wakullah Springs and St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge is a nice place. You can see the Manatee's up close and personal....take a boat trip up the river and see birds, alligators, etc...it's s. of Tallahassee...as already suggested take the Hwy 98 route west to Panama City and Pensacola. There are several lighthouses on the way..If you haven't seen the Naval Aviation Museum lately you should go. There is also a lighthouse there on base across from the Museum. Seville Quarter in Pensacola is full of history, as are the forts on the Navy base. Good photo opps there, as there is enough light inside for good shooting....While in Pensacola eat at McQuires Irish Pub.
Have fun

Great....keep them coming! 8-)
Highway 98 is definitely the way to go. You will drive within feett of the Gulf for at least 50 miles. If you have the time, take in Cape San Blas, a pristine beach community between Appalachicola and Port Saint Joe. It is a peninsula running north and south, one mile wide and ten miles long. You get the sunrise over St Joe Bay in the morning and the sunset over the Gulf in the evening. Plenty of critters to photograph. Eat at Indian Pass Raw Bar and Three Tails restaurant. Fantastic seafood at both. In 2002 the beach at the Cape was voted best in America. Still is in my book.

Thanks Alyn, but Orlando will be a bit away from this trip's planned route. 8-)
Here's a link that should help you with fishing as well as birding/wildlife/etc with numerous links -
http://myfwc.com/viewing/recreation/location/You can go to
www.floridastateparks.org for park sites. I would consider Destin/Ft. Walton Beach for some of the most beautiful beaches, sand dunes, aquamarine water scenes, also in Marianna there are the Caverns worth seeing. Tallahassee shore has St. Marks Wildlife Refuge and in April you should get great shots of birds and butterflies - there is also fishing available if you have a small boat (no rentals available). Let me know if you have questions.

Half way between Jax and Pensecola is the Big Bend, just south of Tallahassee, A nature lovers dream, Great scenery, wildlife and fishing. St. Marks NWLR, St Vincent NWLR, Apalachicola National Forest, Lower Suwanee NWLR, Steinhatchee, Google in Big Bend, Florida for great info. Pristene old Florida, you will love it. Have a good trip .
If you enjoy historical venues and Ships take a ride across Mobile Bay and visit the site of the Alabama Battleship Memorial. There is the Battleship tour and also a wwII submarine. Also some great seafood restaurants to stop at.

One more thing to mention, Bmac....
Someone mentioned the glass bottom boats at Wakulla...They only run if the water is clear enough, so that is not something you can count on :-(
When I was a young girl the water was crystal clear all the time and when you were in the glass bottom headed towards the springs you could see to the bottom. When you got to where the ledge was it was like falling of the edge of the world..sadly it's not always like that anymore. The last time I was there , a year ago, the boats weren't running....However, the pontoon boat tours always run, so that's a good thing.
Destin Harbor when the fishing boats come in to unload the catch. Sunsets from AJ's deck in Destin. Any public pier for birds stealing fisherman's bait when they're not looking.
