Erv, I apologize up front: I don't mean to be picky, but they are meal worm or larva. The adult, an ordinary plain black beetle is a very common pest in stored grain. The larva make good fish bate for bream/sunfish.

Thanks! They sure are good looking. Was hard to give them to the birds.:):) But boy are they pricy!!!! $19 for a small bag. But if they stay around well worth the price.:) The other birds are eating me out of house and home right now. They might as well join the party.:)

If your are the sort of person that can attend to dull detail, it is possible to raise your own meal worms and there is probably a web site with instructions. All you need is a warm place, a large pan filled with coarse-ground grain (wheat, barley, oats), into which you place a handful of meal worm larva. You will need to cover this tightly with a screen as when the larva mature into beetles, they will be inclined to fly away. If such a project interests you, you can soon have enough meal worms to supply your neighbors and birding friends. :-D
A sure sign that Spring is on its way...great captures.
