Beauties like these two structures are fast disappearing. Nice to be able to capture some images while they last.
The last shot is a two hundred year old mill, which is located about 10 miles north of Dayton, just off Rt. 201

I love barns and I just love this set!

I appreciate your comments, and even more appreciate the fact that others love these old buildings. You can be stressed to the max. and walk into a barn full of horses and feel complete peace.

Great shots. Looks like they are in great shape. We see so many that look like the next gust of wind is going to do them in.

Thanks Sue, you are right, many of them are crumbling. I guess it's our job to capture some good images before their gone.

interesting windows on #2 --- look like church windows

are they windows? Too bad that branch is so big!! Would like to see more of that barn  Nice shots

Thanks for looking, and yes they are windows of a sort. I suppose you could call them vented windows. They allow the barn to breathe, storing fresh hay can be very dangerous ( spontaneous combustion) and the windows help.

Sorry for my last post. Rereading "last...a mill" makes sense being on the creek.

Spent much of my young life working and playing in barns, they were and are the hub of the farm. your insight is very good, thanks for looking.

Nice shots. I like old barns also. The mill looks familiar, just can't place it. I'm a former Daytonian.

Thanks Carl, quick directions might trigger your memory. Exit I-70 at exit38, go north, cross us 40 continue north across rt 571 to second road to the right (Staley Rd.) When you turn on Staley you will be looking at it. It is privately owned and difficult to shoot for that reason.

Actually I'm kind of partial to #3 -- it seems to be a much more unusual edifice.

In counterpoint to your presentations of preserved barns, I offer an alternative, dilapidated structure. It appears to be the victim of urban (urban?) sprawl.

Going . . . going . . .

Thank you, the #3 is a 200 year old mill and not a barn, very well preserved, Thanks for looking and thanks for showing me the shot of the old structure, very sharp and clear, next year it might be gone, great job!

I liked 2 and 3 best because of the surrounding colorful scenery, although that first barn is an impressive structure with those cupelas, etc.

I also lived in Trotwood. Small world, huh? I lived on Honeybee Drive during the 60's.

Thanks photophile, I was using my old D60 (a great camera) and 18-105mm kit lense on the red barn. I'm several camera's down the road now and will go back this Spring and try for a better shot with the D7000 and my 16-85mm Nikor, a great lens. It will be fun to see the difference, and if it is noticeable.

Did you know or hear of a man named Roger Pellam? He was know as the leica man. He was in his 90's when he passed about 10 years ago. A great photographer and teacher, and a true gentlman. wish I could remember all the things he tried to teach me. He lived in that neighborhood.
