I have an extensive professional Canon 35mm film camera system that has been sitting in a drawer unused for about a decade. It finally dawned on me that I will never use this stuff again, and I am looking for the best place to sell it. Has anyone had any experience selling used camera equipment to:
Keh Camera in Atlanta
B&H Photo in Manhattan
Cambridge Photo in Brooklyn

They will all buy used but pay the bottom dollar (since they will re-sell it..) I'd suggest eBay and/or Craigslist.

Some high schools still teach photography with film and have the kids learn basic darkroom skills. So if you have one of those in your area, consider donating the camera. But I suppose finding that could be tough now.

Stony, you might donate the camera and or equip that has no value. But you say it's top pro gear. Top pro lenses where L lenses even back then. If you have old manual L lenses you may consider using them even now with converters. They would be all manual if they are FD's. Good luck

prices are very low for film gear. unless its a very rare camera. ebay and craigslist are good, but if you look in the sold items on ebay you will see they dont bring much more than $25/30. just remember the listed price on ebay means nothing, You can ask asmuch as you want. and just seeing the add means it has not sold. so i look in the sold list to get a better value on the item your trying to sell.

Sold my old film gear to KEH.

Good experience, fair prices and they settled up fast.

You might actually get more as a tax deduction from donating what you finally decide to get rid of. Check local high schools to see if they can use. My nephew teaches high school photography and can always use older film cameras. I gave him two and still have one, makes a nice paperweight.

Not exactly a seller's market... I kept my old roll film cameras as collectibles...don 't use 'em...can't sell 'em...don't want to part with them. I ended up giving away all my darkroom equipment because nobody wanted to buy it even at a bargain price. (Wish I had kept my safelight and converted it into a desk lamp to use while working on pictures on the computer. Would have been neat!)

I sold some of my Hasselblad gear, Metz strobes, several lenses along with miscl other gear to KEH to buy my D300 Nikon,..........did I ever take a $$$$ beating on that value drop.

Was in a hurry,...KEH paid me quickly though,..no regrets.

KEH is excellent for old Nikon glass, especially old metal rugged lenses I use. Bought an old 200mm f4 they said was a good user,...arrived in mint condition for little $$ output.

Report back to us,....I still have some gear to part with and will be interested in how you do.

I've seen many film SLRs of various brands with one or more lenses, accessories, bag, and even flash selling in the $25 to $50 range. You're probably going to feel sick about selling your stuff at prices like that. The lenses are actually worth far more than the bodies because they can be fitted to dSLRs. I'd probably put my efforts into selling them separately and know that you're going to take it in the butt on the bodies.

Make sure your shutters still work properly. I let a couple of 35mm Pentax bodies set for 10-15 years, and when I went to sell them recently, found that the shutters were slow. Ended up selling them for parts.

NONE of these retail stores give you a fair price. An example is a friend of mine got a new Sigma 150-500mm from his kids for x-mas. He's not into bird watching or wild animal shots so he figured he could trade it for a lens he could use. Since Audorama was suppose to be a great place to deal with he checked them out along with all the major stores that deal in trades and they gave him the best price of any stores checked. Now mind you this was a brand new lens that had never been taken out of the box, was selling for $1069 and the best price he found was $425!!! You are most likely not going to get much but the last place to deal with are big money stores, they'll give you nothing......
