fully manual film slrs still have some value. the electronic ones are worth bupkiss lint. picked up a nikon n-90 for $8. if your system was anything but canon, your manual focus lenses value would be rising, due to the increased use of video features. However canon changed their lens mount. you might find an adaptor.

Point to consider. fellow hogger lost everything she owned including all her camera gear in a house fire. she is looking for equipment donations. you could give some to her. Their is NOTHING more rewarding then to help out someone less fortunate.

NONE of these retail stores give you a fair price. An example is a friend of mine got a new Sigma 150-500mm from his kids for x-mas. He's not into bird watching or wild animal shots so he figured he could trade it for a lens he could use. Since Audorama was suppose to be a great place to deal with he checked them out along with all the major stores that deal in trades and they gave him the best price of any stores checked. Now mind you this was a brand new lens that had never been taken out of the box, was selling for $1069 and the best price he found was $425!!! You are most likely not going to get much but the last place to deal with are big money stores, they'll give you nothing......

Of course - those stores have the goal of making a profit and as big a profit as they can. It is not to give you/us a "fair" price. If you want the most you can get, you have to cut that guy out and go directly to the buyer...with all the grief that might be.

What do you have?

Glad you asked, Darkroom. The system includes 2 Canon F-1n bodies, with FN viewfinder. One of the F-1n bodies has been modified to enable pin-registered multiple-exposure effects on 35mm film. I initially used it to do things like burn type over a product shot, for use in the corporate slide show extravaganzas that were popular in the '80's. I eventually came to realize I could use it as a creative tool for the product shots themselves. The system also includes an AE power winder FN, and an NPC Polaroid film magazine, all excellent condition. (I was single then. They were my children.) I can't help but think these would be an excellent tool for a young photographer, infatuated with the film technologies, as I was, who is as neurotic/obsessive as I was as a young photographer.

The system also includes a Canon FD 100-300mm F5.6 L zoom; 70-210mm F4 zoom; 35-105mm F3.5-4.5 zoom; 24mm, 28mm, and 50mm primes. I'm taking Sharpshooter's advice and holding back a 28mm, 50mm, and 85mm prime, and getting a lens adapter for my Canon D-SLRs. These are some of the sharpest lenses I've ever worked with.

I got an e-mail quote for all the above, plus a Canon EF body, AE-1 body, and T-70 body, from B&H Photo for $305. I'm initiating a separate thread about the Canon F-1n modified for pin-registered animation work. Curious to see if anyone remembers, or still has one.

Stony, you might donate the camera and or equip that has no value. But you say it's top pro gear. Top pro lenses where L lenses even back then. If you have old manual L lenses you may consider using them even now with converters. They would be all manual if they are FD's. Good luck

I highly agree. If you have a DSLR the wide angle and big telephoto FD primes might occupy an occasional but expensive niche. Think carefully of any future directions you may want to explore.

Getting a good adapter will drive you nuts. Generally you have some third party suppliers. Some will essentially be an extension tube that will mess up your infinity focus. Others will have corrective optics that soften the image but allow infinity. Two that sound promising are a high quality lens type from Elephoto and a lens-less adapter from Ed Mika that mounts permanently on the lens and in most cases still allows infinity focus as is or with minor modifications

What condition is the regular F-1n and how much would you take for it?

I have an extensive professional Canon 35mm film camera system that has been sitting in a drawer unused for about a decade. It finally dawned on me that I will never use this stuff again, and I am looking for the best place to sell it. Has anyone had any experience selling used camera equipment to:
Keh Camera in Atlanta
B&H Photo in Manhattan
Cambridge Photo in Brooklyn

just gave mine away to someone that will use it and hopfuly inspire some one else.

Have you ever drove a brand new car off the parking lot and a few days later tried to trade it in for a different new car. Talk about taking a beating. What I'm trying to say is that once sold a lens takes on the status of used. Your friend may have claimed it was never used, but how is the big store to really know. Did he send it in to be examined? And yes, used equipment can be bought and sold for considerably less than new. I suspect a lot of UHHers have benefited from this fact, I know I have. By-the-way, I have about $1200 (new price) of camera equipment in excellent condition. When last checked worth about $50 at most.
