Yes, Picasa [& Picnik] will work just fine for editing your photos [raw or jpeg] within the limits of what these programs do, which is quite limited. The basic edits are available, and very easy to apply. You can also check the basic exif data. Good place to start; and the price is right.

I would caution you to be very careful about over sharpening and/or over saturating with these programs unless you want a very surrealistic presentation.

Raw is just like it says.
Like a raw piece of stake
That means it hasn't been cooked, seared, touched it's raw!
It is large used for large blow ups of pics with no missing pixels
Raw gives you all the quality in a picture
If you are just a point and shoot sunday afternoon person
Just shoot JEPEG it will save you memory and the headache

go to your shooting settings in your menu
You will see your choices you want to use RAW if you expect to sell quality pictures

Why do you get on these type of information sites just to be a jerk? How rude!

Bruce: The Wolf is always rude, and very hard to read due to his poor English and many typos. But, he is a master at his craft; or, so I am told. I would really like to see some of his work. Now, when it comes to a hot debate between him and Nikonian72, [read supra] I'm inclined to follow the Nikon man. 1. I use Nikon, and won't demean it; it's a great camera despite what the Wolf says. 2. I can actually read and understand what the Nikonian has to say. 3. I've checked out the Nikonian's website. He truly is a master of his craft; just check his site. 4. Nikonian is emphatic, but I've never seen him rude. And, he does give sources, or else just admits it's his opinion. But, he never snarls at anyone. Just my observation. But, I sure wish we could all treat this forum as a learning place instead of an ego trip!

I couldn't agree with you more! I must assume Wolf snapped at Nikonian, because he didn't have any documentation, and Nikonian called him on it. There really isn't any good reason for the nasty posts, as far as I'm concerned.

That was a "fun food fight". But I shall refrain from entering the ring.

The Fabled "Gessman", Tim Tebow's acupuncturist, is in or near Denver, Squirrl is in or near Seattle, there are quite a few shooters up in that corner of the map, and at least one Alaskan.

We have really ugly hedgehogs here in the Ozarks. There was one living under my storage shed up until a few months ago, till I shot it. Sorry I didn't shoot it first with the Nikon. But, the Winchester needed to be sighted in before deer season.

HMMMM! No one within arms reach to shoot with. Oh darn. I am trying to set up a 4 or 5 day shoot in yellowstone NP in Feb or March. I do most of my pics in summer (it's a whole lot warmer here then) but I do want to get a winter week in Yellowstone. Wildlifeman.

I use Picasa 3 & Picnic to edit my Nikon RAW (NEF), with no problems whatsoever. NEF = Nikon Electronic Format

Canon, Sony, Kodak, Olympus, etc., all have their own proprietory "recording" (RAW) formats. Raw images can only be catured in a camera, and cannot be re-written (edited) into another RAW image. All manipulated RAW images can only be saved as a JPG, TIF, or other "printing" format.

I have probably what is the least expensive camera used on this forum: a Canon S95. It will shoot in RAW and I've already downloaded Picasa. I've not shot in RAW yet as I'm just learning my camera. Does anyone have any idea whether Canon data is compatable with Picasa?
Any help or suggestions will be very much appreciated.
