Just so you will know, some folks use auto focus because they have vision problems, not saying that she does. I have owned three Canons, very unsatisfactory experience with all three. On two of them the sensors went kaput within a year and a half. Do yourself a favor and don't believe all the advertising hype. She just asked for help not a smart alek remark.

Yup! Canon IS the answer (or the question?) Why is it that most of the photo equipment for sale on Craigslist is "Canon"? Very little Nikon equipment! Dah! Nikon users are always satisfied with Their equipment! LOL No offence meant. Just a poor attempt at early morning humor

It looks to me like your auto focus is snapping to the pine needles in the foreground. This is a common problem in a shooting situation like this. Try using manual focus on the people. I doubt that there is anything wrong with your camera.

Am I to assume a Canon would have told her what was wrong? That won't help her much when she was asking about a Nikon.

Canon just laughs at that question

Make sure that your focus point isn't picking out object to the side such as the pine needles. Use center point focus.

Hey Brat23. Welcome to the forum. You might want to post this question as a seperate topic. Just go to the top of the home page and click on "create new topic" and state the same thing there as you did in this thread. This way it will direct people to your specific question. Just title it as "Help" or something like that and you will get several people willing to help. And good luck with the topic.

i agree. If you had focused on the the hat of the person on the right and then kept the shutter partially pressed while composing your shot you could have gotten a better shot.
