Very nice eye of the fly.
Where was your diffused flash? I posted one a week ago, and it had a "nice" rectangular shape from my diffuser. You've avoided that.

i think my pics have a hint of that glare,i had my flash low and 56mm tubes + f25

I usually have my SB-400 speedlight controlled by the camera: Manual @ 1/16 output.
Lens is Nikkor 105G at MFD, with 36mm of extension tube. 1/200-sec @ f/22, then cropped in iPhoto.
