Have you tried using just a quality paper towel yet as your diffuser material?

thought you were using a speedlite. On a pop up flash I wrap a Coffee filter around it, works pretty good. I also made a diffuser from a milk container, seen on the set up page. We are talking about the white rectangle in the fly's eye right? That's why I ask what type of diffuser material you are using for your speedlite

I am using a speedlight, mounted on the same axis as the lens & positioned slightly behind the front of the lens. The diffuser I made has a double layer of packing material that was used to wrap the 42" TV I purchased several years ago.

Paper Towel for the Diffuser material for your speedlite. The packing material you use will show a hot spot in the center, sometimes leaving a rectangle flash mark on your subject, paper towels do not. Just an ideal.

OK. I'll give it a try.
