I was at it again...
#1 Best   argee with Mooseeyes -also a little angle on the basket and the lid cracked would add action.

You need light coming through the glass when you have wine in it. The only way to truely show the translucence of the wine is to backlight it. I like the composition, Just wanting to help with some of the lighting.
I like the "sparkle" on the glassware
Nice Tilde, #1 makes me want a sip! Love the colors, makes me want to look over and over :D
Love the second picture. Looks like it could have come from a magazine ad. Look forward to more of your pictures...
Ohhhhh my word!
*HUGE blush*
For some reason, email isn't notifying me of additions to the comment section on this and other posts. I had NO idea there were any more views or comments!
Thank you to everyone who looked and commented... just in case I don't address your post individually. It's not a personal snub, okay?
Brad: Your particular comment struck me as most generous, Sir! THANK you for that! wow *beams*
plessner: My issue before now with glass, is controlling those very highlights/sparkles so they do not become obtrusive or distracting. I think this time, I did something right. :) Thank you for your comment!

Thank you for that suggestion!
I know in my heart-of-hearts it would work splendidly.
A few, battery-operated, LED "puck lights" are on my shopping list for just such application, actually!
I'll give it a try when I have the set up perfected and share with you here... just to see what ya think :)
Your suggestion and compliment are much appreciated

Thank you, David!
It does seem to be more of an even score between the colored version and the sepia-toned now. I'm not terribly surprised by that fact, given the tones in each are pretty similar to begin with.
I use that as a gauge as to whether or not a particular photo would work well as a b&w or sepia or cream-tone or other effects.
Generally, the closer the natural, original tonal values are to the effect chosen... the better the effect will work for the photo... at least in my personal experience.

Hmmm... do you mean the lid of the box or the "lid" (aka: top) of the bottle!? :D
Thank you for peekin' and for the thumbs ups too!

speechless, for a while. I like 3 and 4 best. I think the chest detracts in 1 and 2. In 3 and 4 the orange color against the black background is stunning! I don't know how you get that black background, but I REALLY like it.
I think one of the best photos I have seen on this forum was by Lez I think, of a red apple with side light and a pitch black background.
Thanks Tilde, for helping all of us grow in photography!

Wow. Now I'm really curious about Lez's shot! Would you happen to have that link handy so I can go peek?
Thank you for your compliment and comments, too.
"Rustic" seems to be the number one choice for wine photos and as it happened, I had this box with lots of texture and dark color that I thought might add to that feel.
My original plan for the shoot really did revolve around the oranges against a black background. The wine shots were after-thoughts in hopes of making my efforts more worthwhile in the long run.
I shoot in my confined living quarters, which means there's a LOT of rearranging involved. I like to try to make that time count for something more than a couple of photos that only take 3 mins tops to create! ;)
Thanks again!
P.S.
That particular black background is nothing more than some yardage of black fleece fabric... like a heavy felt with minimal pile... from the local fabric store. I used the same piece as the background and base for the photo by hanging it from the slanted ceiling and draping it gently over the table I was working from. :)

Well done! Great work on these. I'd like to try duplicating your efforts here, but there's no way.
The darned cats would drink up all the wine, and then spend the night playing cards and ordering pizza. I wouldn't get anything done.

well YOUR cats are much better behaved than mine!
My bratty sophie actually launched herself at the umbrella I was using... and teetered there for a moment before obliging my VERY loud and threatening screams lol
No worries though... nothing a few glasses of said wine didn't help me forget! ;)
Thanks for peekin' and commenting :)

up to your lovely standards as usual t-gal. You already were a good photographer when you joined the Hog, but it is amazing how far you have come in such a short span. I can not suggest anything about the photos as I do still lives even less then then i do portraits. The only thing missing is a loaf of French bread, and maybe a red and white checkered picnic basket. Your photo reminds me of that old quote." my needs are small, a jug of wine, a loaf of bread, and a hindered thou!
