PixelFlash 3.0.

No more bent pins. Works great and is VERY inexpensive.

you need to update your card reader every two or three years; technology doesn't stand still, and it applies to these devices also.
Fuji and hana are good devices, and some now are 35 in i- if you need that many !

How can you tell if you have a 1.0, 2.0 or 3.0 port on the computer?

Thank you, all. I think my computer has the 2.0 USB ports. It is a 3 year old computer, but I recently had a new hard drive and more memory installed so I hope to use it for awhile. I keep hearing good things about the Lexar...I'll look into it. Thanks again. I really appreciate being able to throw my questions out there to all of you.

Sounds like a desktop, you could install a card reader "card", would give you a built in reader, my built in is always faster than a USB reader, easier too. Bob.

In addition to MT's advice: How old is your computer? Is it due for replacement soon? If so, it will likely come with a USB 3 port - my recently new laptop has one USB 2 and 2 USB 3 ports.
If you think you'll be replacing the computer soon, or if it is a new computer with a USB 3 port already installed, go for the card reader with USB 3 connectivity. You won't believe the speed... ;-)

Right! USB 3.0 is definitely faster. Get a new computer. :D

I got a 3.0 component for my tower which had only 2.0 ports
and installed it with the help of a friend who is computer savvy .
Wa La ! Now have a 3.0 port for the 3.0 reader = "warp speed

So this was a USB 3.0 card you installed into your computer?

My computer is a three year old laptop, but after installing a new hard drive and more memory...I really need to squeeze at least 2-3 more years from it. Thanks all.

One more consideration if you are a Mac user. My system is just a year old and it does not support USB port 3. However, there is a firewire CF card reader that I found from Germany that ships by way of Canada. It is reasonably priced compared to those I found on various sites that are around 150.00. If anyone knows something I might have overlooked with faster card readers for Macs, I hope you will weigh in.

Indeed!
The few minutes you MIGHT save once in a while by using a USB 3.0 port can be better spent making a cuppa joe.

Save your money and you will be able to leap frog to USB 4.0 (which will probably be virtual and wireless. ) when your laptop has reached the end of its usefullness.

Firewire is more robust (less error prone) and has basically the same real-world data transfer rate as USB 3.0, so you are covered!

However Apple (typical rebels that they are) is pushing Thunderbolt (an Apple propriatary data transfer protocol) and lately seems to be abandoning the IEEE Firewire 800 industry standard.

Yes , 4.0 / 5.0 will be coming down the road , but for now time is money .Besides the component was a very nominal cost .

Hi friends. I did a search on UHH about card readers, but didn't see this question addressed specifically. I've been using a Sandisk card reader (several years old). It works, but takes quite awhile to upload files from my 7D. Is this because the files are large or would it be a good idea to purchase a newer c.r? If you use a c.r. would you have a recommendation for me? Thanks.

Something often overlooked. Do you have a printer, many have card reader built in. I have two Epson printers. Both with card reader. The older one is slower but the 4 year old reader is very fast, even with raw files.
