Alicia Keys' National Anthem rendition?
Whitney will be hard to beat in our lifetime... pardon the pun Bobby Brown... what a shame she snorted, injected & smoked it all away.
By the way, nice to see the NFL has adopted hockey style periods! The 49's almost pulled it off in that third period!
Farm commercial took the Kudos and I am NOT a farm boy, but I do like to eat... Budweiser was nice too. I've forgotten most of the rest. Except perhaps for GoDaddy.

Is it just me, or did Alicia Keys performance of the "Star-Spangled Banner" at the Super Bowl seem to be all about HER?
Her slow and plodding rubato tempo prevented the crowd from singing along (some people like to do that!), highlighted by the sideline closeups of Ray Lewis' frustrated attempt to do so. I think it would have been far more tasteful if she'd played a steady, singably accessible version, and she should've shown off her formidable piano skills instead of trying to dazzle us with vocal flourishes (which other singers do better anyway).
I think Jennifer Hudson's lead-in rendition of "America the Beautiful" had a far more genuine feel to it, though entirely predictable...

The reasons stated above are exactly why I do not watch the pre-game or the haf-time show because they usually suck or offend me.
Imagine the job of trying to please millions upon millions of people, that's not easy. I just enjoy the show and digest what I care to and not worry about the other.

The problem with todays "singers", in my opinion, is that they all over sing. It is an awful trend and it does seem to be all about them. They try to place a thousand notes into a single measure thinking they will impress everyone. To me, it can completely destroy a song.
The National Anthem was blah, halftime was crap. The lights and power should have gone off right then. It was slutty and not family friendly in any way. jazzplayer is right, "slut posse" Yikes! I would rather have seen a great marching band. My suggestions for bands, which has been the trend for years now would have been the Gin Blossoms or Matchbox Twenty (who just released a new album which would have been good timing). Simple Plan, even though they are Canadian. But they have had British acts.
On a different note, I am really sick of how NFL players react after doing their job. Again, it's all about them. Immature and unprofessional. Very disillusioned so I think I'm done watching football.
What completely preoccupied me through Beyonce's performance was the fact that her eyes were constantly seeking out the camera (as camera jockeys all, I'm sure you guys probably noticed that, too). As a professional performer, I think she should at least have been coached to understand that a "live" performance is not about collecting a portfolio of "come hither" headshots... well, some of the body shots were pretty good, but does she always have to look at the camera ?
It's sad with all of the negativity. I guess that's why they all are making millions of dollars. No one wants to watch them anymore, right ? They are top-notch performers, sell millions of records and always have sell-out concerts. Did I prefer Alicia Keys rendition of the National Anthem ? Not really. But, she can sing. Beyonce's performance was outstanding. To reference her in terms of a "slutty" performance is completely inappropriate. It's all known as creativity in an attempt to seek out and create their own identity. And for those that don't like football anymore, I doubt seriously that you will be missed. I think there is a checker match on TV, tonight. Sorry for the sarcasm !

It was completely appropriate to call her "performance" slutty. It was low class and in poor taste. That's creativity? Seeking her own identity? She is just like so many other "acts" today...a penny a dozen. Copycats. It was horrible and NFL ought to be ashamed.
Just be glad it wasn't Roseanne "singing" the national anthem. Oy-vey.
Jennifer Hudson's rendition of American the Beautiful was a B+, but nothing, and I mean nothing, beats the A+++ version of Ray Charles. (AND WHY ISN'T THIS SONG OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM?)
Alicia Keys version of the Star Spangled Banner didn't do anything for me. Too slow, too much vocal flourish at the end, and it seemed like she changed at least part of it to a minor key. JUST SING THE SONG! I give it a C.
Beyonce's half time performance was high energy dance entertainment. Watching her strut almost made me ignore the fact that I can't stand her music. C+
As for the game, it got interesting after the blackout, but I agree with the previous person who complained about all of the self-congratulation every time somebody made a tackle or caught a pass. I think I'll go to work tomorrow and do the same thing--jump into some ridiculous dance everytime I do something right. Wonder how long before I'm fired?

Huey Lewis and the News does a very nice a cappella version of our National Anthem.
At least no one or groups have taken away the Anthem yet, I am proud to be American and it always hurts to see negative talk about the National Anthem, Prayer (at least NASCAR still does), The Pledge of Allegiance and our freedoms, some are allready hardly heard. Thanks to any event that can do any or all the above and quit your bitchin. And if you strapped Beyonce, Bouncy or whatever, to the front of a fire truck it would surely get traffic out of the way with her high pitch squeel, couldn't watch that, time for a beer.

Worst thing that ever happened, used to watch our local Team with sound off and listen to our local radio announcers. Now they have a 15 second delay:-(
Super Bowl 36? - U2 - Where the Streets Have No Name. I still get chills - everyone at our party was on their feet. Everyone at the game was, too. Post 911 - But still, what a show it was. U2 at its best.
