I use a Sony RX100 point and shoot.
It goes every where with me when I have not got my Nikon gear.
It produces excellent images, nice and sharp, colours excellent to.
Easy to use once you played with it for a while and get to know what parts of the menu you need.
I use it on manual most of the time, very easy.
Its size is Ideal for slipping into any pocket.
There is a lot of waffel about it not having the facility for an electronic view finder, external flash unit and finger grip on the body, but in my view, if you add these items, its no longer a pocketable camera, and I have large hands and with big fingers, and I have not had one instance where I've wished for a finger grip on the body.

After a great deal of research and soul searching last year I decided to buy a NEX7 instead of an A77 because I saw a review where the image quality of the nex7 beat the a77 by a country mile (granted it was pixel peeping). This convinced me that mirrors will eventually disappear from cameras.
The nex7 was my first digital camera after being away from photography for nearly 20 years. Digital photography for me has been a real eye opener with the amazing quality available from what is essentially a half frame camera.
What do I think they could do to improve the nex7, well they could make it possible to tether it to a laptop, the image stabilization should be in the body in line with the slt cameras. 5 shot brackets would be nice and it seems to me that you can't use the bracket function and remote infra red release at the same time. The bottom of the camera needs to be wider fore and aft so that you get a better mechanical connection to the tripod as at present no matter how much I tighten the screw it won't mount lock solid to a tripod.
But all in all I am really happy with the Nex7 and coming from a Minolta background (SRT 102, XE-1 , Dynax 7) I think in the end it was always going to be a Sony when I returned to photography, although I have over the years used Nikon, Mamiya C330 & RB67, Pentax 6x7, Hasselblad, Bronica, Leica, Linhof Tecnica, Toyoview, and even a Speed Graphic Press camera. Plus in the aerial survey category Fairchild, Zeiss LMK,and Wild RC8.
I like that Sony have carried on Minolta's tradition of pushing the Technology boundaries and I am really looking forward to seeing a full frame mirrorless Nex camera coming out in the next year or two.
Well that's my two cents worth

It was something to do with that 1/3 of stop of light lost because of the translucent mirror producing more noise, and it was in a dpreviews review I think. As I said it was pixel peeping but it was the thing that convinced me to buy the Nex7.

Just picked up a Sony A57 w/ Sonysal 18250 glass. Still in the learning phase with it. Probably only about 20 shots with it so far. Other 2 camera I use are Minolta Dimage Z6 and Canon G12.

i have a @350 with 3 lens' i have had it from the day of its release which was nearly 5 years ago. i have only had contact customer services for one problem which was 3 months ago. i send the camera to the sony centre in cardiff to be serviced and fixed but when i received it back a couple of weeks later one of the problems was still there. So sent it back and after a fairly lengthy wait which meant i was without my camera for christmas and new year and my sons 21 birthday my camera was returned and is now working like new. :-)

Sony Alpha 55. My only complaint is that internal HDR and bracketing only uses less than 1 f/stop exposure difference which isn't enough. Otherwise, no complaints. I might change brands if going to full-frame but that isn't likely to happen in the near future.

I started with an a200 in the screen went out within a year. Made it kind of hard to use the camera. I could not find a camera shop that would fix it. They all said I had to send it in. In my experience with other things, sending in for repair meant you'd pay almost the same price to get if fixed as a new one would cost. Since I had purchased a few extra items for the camera, (lens, cable release, etc.)I didn't want to change manufacturer, but I was hesitant to buy another Sony. I gave in and bought an a500 and am very happy with it.

I have the NEX-5N with the optional EVF viewfinder and the NEX-7 along with most of the available lenses. I find them to be very, very good cameras with excellent IQ.

I also recently purchased the RX-100 and it's an outstanding point & shoot; Carl Zeiss lens and the ability to shoot RAW. I added the Richard Franiec grip to mine since I have somewhat large hands. I went on just as shown in the photos and I'm all thumbs.

I have had a Sony Alpha 230 for three years. First time user and it is a great camera. At the time there were not many 2nd hand lenses about so later bought a 2nd hand EOS 450D so that i could buy cheap lenses to practice with (didn't) and live view (slow). I keep on going back to the Sony cause the images are so much sharper. As for professional use....most mags have a list of cameras that they accept pictures from...usually last two new versions made by canon and nikon, occaisionally last version Sony. it is not camera fault ...simply snobbery.

Oh forgot. the sigma 70 - 300 dg macro originaly with the kit lost auto focus because the gearing was not up to the strength of the Sony motor. Sigma have upgraded newer lenses so whatch what you buy...

Yep snobbery in more than one way if last year's best camera suddenly isn't good enough.

By the way, there are plenty of used Minolta lenses that fit Sony. That was another reason that went with Sony. As long as they are the auto-focus lenses, you don't have to worry about them not possibly not being compatible, unlike some camera/lens combinations with Canon or Nikon.
