i thought the same thing with my A77 - the sony raw converter program was terrible. just an FYI - photoshop just came out with a raw converter for the a77 - maybe they included your camera in there too.

Generally this kind of inquiry brings up those who own that type of camera and are loyal to it, so the survey is biased from the start. Having said that, one of my two cameras is a Sony RX100 and I love it because, as a pocket camera, it is without par. On the negative side, Sony's proprietary RAW converter program is one of the worst around. One of the strengths of the RX100 is its being the only pocket cameras with RAW capabilities, and yet one of its weaknesses is Sony's not having an adequate RAW program. This is likely to be corrected with updating from CS6 adding Sony

You know, it is funny that you said that about their RAW converter. I never downloaded the Sony software and yet lightroom and cs6 handle it just fine.

I have the Sony a560. It does a good for me and I like it, but since I am inexperienced in photography my comment isn't too meaningful.

hi
I have a a850..just got a used a900.. and started with the a100(with digital)... but have had the nikon f4 and then switched to the minolta 9xi ...(which I still have...)

honestly I got sony because I had all the lenses and flash already.. but my pictures are just as good as taken by other cameras .. I have to agree with the sentament that is is the person behind the lens.. as people remark on the pictures i have taken..each manufacturer has it pros/cons..(with sony noise at high iso ) but the pros outway that,,(and Its rare i use high iso anway )

I dont like the new a99 because of the evf.. I keep my cameras a long time.. as i see it as another screen that can possibly go bad..

I have used Sony p&s since the 707. The glass is great and I get clear sharp images. I miss the infrared function but the built-in panorama and HDR are nice functions.

When I bought my first dslr it was a Sony a200 and i was more than pleased with it, I then moved on to the Sony a57 and i also thought it is a fine camera my only downer with the a57 is the video button is in a poor position, when i bought my first camera I had never heard of nikon or canon

I have the Sony A 580 and many Minolta lenses also some new Tamron and Sigma lenses,I really like the this camera. I bought the 3 year protection. The one problem that I had was shutter speed dial stopped working properly. They said the contacts were dirty. And now the only time it has that problem is in real cold weather. I use this camera daily and am not easy on it. I take from 25 to 300 pics daily with it. Because I use it a lot I am glad I got the protection plan. I am thinking of selling some of my Minolta lenses and buying the Sony 70- 400 at about 2000.00.

I owned a Minola Maxxum 3000i until it died after 15 years. My dh called the company to see about fixing it and was told they could not so he purchased a Minolta Maxxum 70, and for a point and shoot that I could keep in my purse I had a Sony Cybershot with Carl Zeiss Lens (DSC W80) until I recently upgraded that to the Sony Cyber Shot (DSC-HX20v) w/ Sony Lens. I chose that because it had the fastest shutter in the point and shoot mega zooms and I can still put it in a manual mode. My issues with this camera are: pictures tend to look pixelated where I used the full zoom, and after a few months the pictures started to get black streaks/spots in them. I am not sure if the cause is dead pixels or censor. I have only had this camera 6 months. Oh, the other issue with this one is the video; the zooming in and out is noisy and is picked up on the videos. However, I love the Sony cameras. My current mission is trying to find a Sony I like that will take the old Minolta lenses and has a fast shutter as I love taking pictures of fighter jets in motion. Any advice will be appreciated.

I have three Sony's: an a700, an a77, and a Cybershot P&S. The P&S is mostly just to keep in the car so I'm never without a camera when I'm out and about.

The a700 was a great camera for it's day, but is out of production now. If the a77 had been available when I bought the a700, I wouldn't own the a700 today. This is not a put-down of the a700. If you run across one of these animals in good condition and for a good price, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. But if you are shopping for your first DSLR, then for sure buy the a77 (even though the "SLR" part of the descriptor doesn't strictly apply). Unbelieveable camera. I shot with Minolta for forty years until they went belly up, and so went with Sony due to their buy-out of Minolta. I'm happy with my decision.

Close friend bought a four y.o. camera on ebay and after a couple of years of heavy use was having some problem. Contacted Sony service. They sent a shipping label to him! It was repaired and sent back at no charge AND a letter of apology!!!! That impressed me no end!

Minolta was first, then Konica-Minolta, then Sony. No regrets. The old lens fit the Alpha series. Currently use A900, NEX7 and RX1. Am told it's not the camera but the person behind it. My learning started and continues with Sony and thanks to UHH I have learned alot.

I am only a novice but I do like my Sony a37. Since buying it I have had some classes with professional photographers who think it is a great camera. Also when in camera stores (not Sony stores), many of the sales people tell me what a great camera it is.

My only concern is since it is not as popular, I have problems with accessories. For example I could not find a wireless remote shutter release or even a short wired shutter release. Also, I wanted a doubler for my 75-300 zoom. I could not find one that would fit my Sony lens.

As I said before I am a novice and if anyone has a suggestion on how to solve these issues I would love to hear them.

1- I have Sony Digital Still Camera and Video DSC-H1 Cyber-shot 5.1 MegaPixels
2- I love it
3- It has a fixed lens, Sony lens/optical 12x
f=6.0-72.0mm 1:2.8-3.7

I was able to buy it from my part of my mothers estate. Not very big but it allowed me to get a camera for what I wanted to use in learning how to use it.
Now the disclaimer. If I ever sound like "I know what I'm talking about", I want someone to stop me.
I knew what a megapixel was, or at least I thought I knew, so my Sony can do either 3mp or 5mp. I use the 3mp because it is probably the one for me to use. The 5mp is just too big.
more to come, I gotta go find Sony in my PC. The file system is something else.
