This is not directed at you personally Shine1, but I'm puzzeled by tall the posts I see on UHH like this one "What camera, tripod, etc. etc. etc. should I buy?" While I understand wanting to know what's good and what's not, I don't believe that this is the best way to find out. Product review sites are more likely to give you detailed information as to the pro's and con's of various products. When these questions are posted on a site like this, you will get as many different suggestions as responses. Well, except ones like your's then everyone will tell you which one they chose, but is that really what's best for your situation?
Go read the reviews (Google "Canon 7D or Nikon D7000 or whatever Review" ) on what you're considering, then decide what you think best suits your wants, needs and budget. Otherwise you're going to get what others like instead of what you do.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Nikon D7000, a sure winner.
Your are right! The pros shot Canon only because there friends do. It's personal choice. I stopped with Nikon because when I moved to Dlsr I did not need to change all my lens where in the old film days I had both Canon & Nikon. Sadly the Canon Film kit was useless with the DLSR so the Canon gear was Ebayed off. But I think that the holy trinity that Nikon produce is sharper than the canon's equivalent. Also the Canon's flash hummmmmmm you know which is the best as the pros

Question/ What do all the professionals shoot. Answer/ Canon. I have recently spent time with a professional landscaper he shot Canon's and a professional bird/ wildlife photographer , he also shot Canon. There must be a reason why.
No can help. I have used neither.
I lurv my D700.
7D D700 D7000 There has got to be a moral to
the story in there somewhere.
Of course Nikon made the D70 as well.
The Maserati below is a shot took with
a D70.
I have just looked at a comparison between the D7000 and the D7. Why so many focus points, we only need one, why so high ISO, most of the time we want lower than 100, We do want faster frames per second . What about giving us Nd filters in the cameras software and polarisers,, you already have the technology, give us what we want camera manufacturers. Instead Mr Canon and Mr Nikon, you are trying to outdo each other by giving us more focus points, (we only need one) Higher ISO, we do not need as fast,(the faster the grainier). Both of you will loose out to other manufacturers, who are gaining on you. Look at the lens situation, Sigma getting very good, Tamron getting very good, Sony coming up on the rails. The same will happen with the camera bodies.
Troubled times could be coming Mr Nikon, Mr Canon.

Nikon D7000 for sure. One heck of a camera. The prices have never been better, and there are many 3rd party options for cheap, and even the Nikon branded ones if your pockets are a little deeper.
Canon...just my preference
I have had three Sony cameras; A-100, A-900 and now an A-99. I loved them all. the A-99 is fantastic and the Zeiss lenses are superb.
Sony rocks!

washy,
I still think the D7000 is an awesome camera. I don't owen a canon so I can't compare them. And sometimes you can't get a shot with out that higher ISO. Because of the dark, and it could be a one time shot if you can't use a flash. The Higher ISO is the only way to go them.
I took this picture after dark of a Great Horned Owl. Seeing I had never seen one in the wild before, I was very glad to get the shot that I did. I do know what you mean about all the focul points, I like to use one the one myself.
I chose the D7000 because I shoot in RAW and JPG. And the D7000 lets me put RAW on one chip and JPG on the other. Saves time for me when moving files, I don't have to seperate them. Plus the shutter speed 6 frame per second.

  ALL professionals? Beg to differ. Several pros on this site alone use Nikon. Take a look at Captain C's web page.....nuf said.
I use Nikons for weddings and portraits. Do I need to sell my equipment and go Canon so I can be a pro?
Love my D7000, D200, D70, F1
