I wonder why anyone would think cheap means anything other than c**p, make me wonder ......

Here I am spending 1-2K on a lens and people buy £100 ones !!!

WOW! bowyer 500mm lens $119, what a lens, cost about $5 to make, any good "Duh!!!!!!!!!!!"

Does your rudeness and conceit have any limits? Your reply was worthless.

Second that.seems as if JR1 very seldomly has anything constructive to say on here.

Jerry, thanks for the reply but which lens are you referencing? Soligar 500?

Sorry about that. I neglected to post the link. Yes - the Soligor.

Has anyone out there own or have any experience with TOYO 500mm f/8, ROKINON 650-1,300mm lenses or the BOWER 500mm f/8 lenses mounted on Canon T3i camera? I have read some conflicting info but I am intrigued because of their relatively low prices compared with CANON lenses.

Have a look at Sigma telephoto lenses, they are not the cheapest but also not the most expensive and you will have a quality lens that will give you good results. ;-)

Not tried those but if it is any use to you I was looking for a 70-300mm, could not justify the cost of a Canon L lens. In the end I bought a Tamron 70-300, it came out slightly better in the tests than the equivalent Canon one (non L) and significantly cheaper. I am getting very good results with it too.

WOW Bret! Love the hawk with cheap lens! I'm just learning how to get a clean shot with my 'expensive' canon stuff, I just might save some money and play with the cheap stuff. Looks like a fine shot to me!

[quote=Bret]Yes like MT said...they are not of a very high quality...more like fun toys to play with....learn with. I have the Bower 500mm F8 lens...and it takes allot of work to get some reasonable shots as it is an all manual lens....if you like I can post a shot or 2...and see for yourself what can be done

Nice pic .... I understand your comment

Shooting with these long lens's requires some very specialized Technic's...and takes some work at getting it all to come together in a shot...stabilizing the thing...handheld...tripod...vr...ranging and distance and on it goes. I got this lens just for that purpose...learn... practice with...so when I do get some really good quality lens I'll be all set.

This kookaburra was shot with my 2000mm f5 and stability, aiming, focusing was a challenge.
