I thought the fellow who mentioned the dangers associated with hunting wild boars in Texas came back with a reasonable reply, as did the comment about bird, rabbit and varmint hunting. I also think, in lieu of this nation's recent mass shooting tragedies, whether or not those activities justify letting the general population arm themselves with assault type weapons is still a question worthy of debate.

Is that better Mudshark?

Another person speaking without a clue...you obviously have machine guns...a fully automatic weapon...confused with semi-auto weapons. "Mowing down whole herds" is not possible with any legal weapon...such as a semi-auto rifle. And "if indeed game were able to fire back" indicates someone raised watching Disney cartoon animals and having little experience with the real world.

I own a .223 ranch rifle, stainless and synthetic. It will fire the exact same round as the AR-15 at exactly the same rate with most likely more accuracy and durability...I can buy magazines that hold just as many rounds. The politicians and the silly people following and/or trying to lead them...are ranking weapons by looks...does it "look" like a bad assed gun they saw in a movie...most likely on full auto...? It is all bullshit...they never address reality just as the people who randomly kill innocents are not dealing with reality....
Also, there are people who can fire a common six shooter with speeds at least as fast as anyone with an "assault rifle." If you don't want to own a gun, touch a gun, smell a gun, fire a gun...then don't. However if you so desire you should be able to purchase and safely own and operate a gun....unless you are mentally unstable or a felon, etc.

approx 3700 abortions per day in the US. but that's ok?

really? I don't think you've been spending enough time down at your local Planned Parenthood.....if you had I think you'd find your numbers are off.

His numbers are close. If you assume that abortions are taking place seven days a week, it's actually closer to 3200 per day. If you assume that most are taking place on Monday-Friday because that's when the abortion mills are open, it's closer to 4600.

We have cars that you can purchase right off the floor that go from 0-80mph in just a few sec. We have snowmobiles with 125 or more hp. that do over 100 mph. We relay don't need these eather but they are fun. When someone kills some body with one of these, do we call them assalt vihicles? We have all kinds of laws that are suppost to protect us that don't always work. We need to start protecting ourselfs instead of thinking someone else is going to do it for us. Instead of banning these, maybe we should requre people pass a gun handeling and safty class before purchasing one. But this will still not stop the crazzy people. Maybe we should get rid of all things that hurt and kill us so we will be safe. It's the new world, get use to it.

Did you know.....

A 1997 high school shooting in Pearl, Miss., was halted by the school's vice principal after he retrieved the Colt .45 he kept in his truck.

A 1998 middle school shooting ended when a man living next door heard gunfire and apprehended the shooter with his shotgun.

A 2002 terrorist attack at an Israeli school was quickly stopped by an armed teacher and a school guard.

A 2002 law school shooting in Grundy, Va., came to an abrupt conclusion when students carrying firearms confronted the shooter.

A 2007 mall shooting in Ogden, Utah, ended when an armed off-duty police officer intervened.

A 2009 workplace shooting in Houston, Texas, was halted by two coworkers who carried concealed handguns.

A 2012 church shooting in Aurora, Colo., was stopped by a member of the congregation carrying a gun.

At the recent mall shooting in Portland, Ore., the gunman took his own life minutes after being confronted by a shopper carrying a concealed weapon.

2500 times last year alone legal gun owners stopped violent crime when confronted with it long before any police assistance ...

You probably didn't know any of this because mainstream media doesn't find it worth reporting. It's not sensational enough and doesn't fit with their agenda.

What's insane is people who think removing rights from responsible people will somehow keep them safe.

Very nice link. Thank you.

He answered one of the points that I had been thinking about and not yet researched. I suspected what he shows: that most of the gun crime is very localized. Thus the idea of somehow positively impacting it with Federal laws is ludicrous at the outset.

But we knew that.

I had seen that the crime rate difference even between large cities is huge. New Orleans isn't a place I'd like to hang out much. Neither are Washington DC or Chicago: two places with the most restrictive gun laws in the U.S. Although even in those worst cities most of us know if we stay out of certain neighborhoods we aren't likely to be victumized. Going to New York nowadays isn't half bad despite its restrictive gun laws...although I know I'm a lot safer where I live and everyone has many guns. New York was not so cool in the 50s and 60s when I lived nearby. The gun laws haven't changed since then...they were instittured in like 1917.

The problem is that even though the opposition is presented with all of the info to back up what we believe, they don't want to be confused with the facts and will defend why our liberties should be denied regardless of the outcome. Shameless !!!!

I'm thinking that maybe it would be a good idea to start a new post including the link so that maybe more people would see it?

If someone is doing something that is going to harm you or your family and you decide there is no other option but to shoot is any weapon overkill in that instance? I think not.

I wouldn't hold my breath on either of those.

The media is in the business of selling advertisements. Their interest is served by the public consuming their stuff on a daily basis. Truth and accuracy aren't the best things to help sell the public. Why be interested in that?

Elected officials are in the business of selling themselves. Most important actions take longer to have effect than an election cycle. This does not lead to a particular interest in truth or effective action. They just need to do something the public will believe.

I'm reading Mark Twain's autobiography. It is enlightening to note that things were no different 150-100 years ago in regard to both the media and politicians.

Well as least I have done my part to feed the sickness that is growing inside gun owners. The way I figure it the more paranoid gun owners become the more incidents will occur the greater the public outrage becomes and then the laws start to change. So be afraid, be very afraid...you foolish little children clinging to guns just because potty training was slight traumatic. LOL

I am curious as to why it is always the gun owners that are referred to as nuts, sick, and paranoid. With an estimated 47% of households owning at least one gun and 4.3 million members of the NRA, an organization dedicated to educating people in the safe and legal use of firearms, we must be the most mentally unbalanced population on the planet. I would suggest it is the anti-gun person that is the paranoid. They seem to see a potential murderer in every gun owner.

There are according to the CDC approximately 31,900 gun related deaths from all causes each year. That means that less than 1% of the estimated 300 million guns are used to cause harm.

Your odds of being killed by a firearm of any kind are 1 in 233,000. Your odds of becoming a professional athlete are 1 in 22,000. I know I will never be a pro athlete and I've already been shot once so I'll go with the 1 in 12, 000 chance of finding a pearl in an oyster.

Why not concentrate on enforcing the laws against murder and not having nut jobs like the guy that ambushed the firefighters, who was also a convicted murderer, running around among us.
bb quote=RixPix quote=Mudshark br br YES...you ... (show quote)

Would you prefer the term paranoid delusional gun carrying crazies? Nuts takes up less space.
