You probably won't believe this, but that's ok.I actually had a dream last night about walking down an alley when this huge man with a club was coming up behind me.I,of course was armed in this dream.About the time I thought about drawing my pistol,a couple of people came in the alley behind the thug.IN MY DREAM,I didn't draw because I was afraid I might shoot the innocents.I imagine if I didn't wake up and my dream were to continue,I probably took a sever beating;but I guess I'll never know.

They are ordering it Wednesday and I'm hoping that when Maverick comes galloping home, my wife will have received her Ill-annoy FOID card.

If it's been over 30 days since they got your money for the FOID,contact your senator or rep.

I just got back from Bullet Stop and put down a down payment on a maverick 12 ga. They had to order it as they are having a difficult time keeping an inventory of allot of firearms. Looked at some handguns for Inger and it has to be her personal choice. Once she has her class firing the different calibers and clip vs. revolver we will go from there. This will be a fun year, shooting pictures together and shooting handguns with each other.

Yes, it also will most likely get to others too. When I was a child and on the farm a lot of the time it was my mother and I home alone. Specially in the fall when my father was out of town working.

Even back then we had people who would try to steal tobacco out of the packhouse when it was ready to carry to market.

She would hear people moving around the barns and she would step out on the porch and fire off a couple of rounds in the side of the barn which had tin siding and would make a lot of noise and you could hear people running down the road and vehicles moving off quickly. Usually one time a year was all it took to let them know to stay away. Never tried to enter the house because everyone knew we had no money being that we were sharecroppers and only got any payment after everything was sold and only then would come any settlement if any profit was made.

DennisK,
People are letting the media convince them that the AR-15 and others they sell at Walmart are assult guns...If you repeat it enough times people start believing it. They don't realize that an assult rifle is fully automatic.

Yeah I know. That's why I feel it is my obligation to correct that verbiage every time I see it. People are probably tired of seeing me do this, and I will stop when the media stops calling a semi automatic sporting rifle an assault weapon.

The mainstream media and the anti-gun crowd call any "black" gun an "assault" weapon. The true definition of an assault rifle is one that is able to be fired in fully automatic or semi-auto (one round from a single press of the trigger) mode.

True assault weapons have been extremely hard to come by since the 1930's. The few that are left to buy are so prohibitively expensive, the few buyers that can afford them keep them as collectors items.

The gangbangers and hardcore types that are using full auto UZIs, Tech 9s, MAC 10s, etc. aren't buying them from legitimate gun dealers. They're being smuggled into the country from all over the world.

Pass all the gun control laws you want. They won't make a dent in the crime rate because criminals, by definition, don't obey the law.

Enforce the existing laws and don't let people out who have been convicted for murder after seven to ten years because of overcrowding or "good behavior".

The bleeding hearts cry out against capital punishment because it isn't a deterent. Guess what, most violent crime is committed by repeat offenders who get out early & take up their old ways. Keep them locked up or put a needle in their arm (Sorry, I don't fall into the "warm & fuzzy" crowd that thinks it's a good idea to house, clothe and feed murderous felons at the tax payer's expense).

Not to dispute your story but military and other training I've received always stressed that if you are forced to draw your weapon, and have no other recourse but to use force or the threat of force, you aim at the body mass.

Good Day Fellow Hedgehogs,
I was an accident baby, Dad and Mom were in their '40s when I was born. Dad liked to hunt but when I got to be around 5 years old he stopped. He had shotgun, 30-06, .22 rifles. I never shot any of these firearms, but Dad let me handle them when I was in my early teens. Damn heavy.
I grew up as a child in the '60s. Born 1957. My Dad and I would watch war movies and war tv. shows together. For Christmas and birthdays I would get firearm toys. Johnny 7 O.M.A. (One Man Army) Monkey gun, James Bond attache case which held a knife and would shoot a bullet at a unsuspecting spy, and many other things of this nature. As I got into my teens I got a couple of BB rifles.
When I got married and raised my 2 kids I did not have any firearms, BB guns in my ownership. Nor did we have toys that were firearm related. Not by conscience choice, just didn't have any. My kids were into sports, soccer, and they were on traveling teams which with team practice and home practice, playing with their friends and games we did not have time to do much more than that. Both kids went into the military in 1999 and in basic training my Son received the Basic Training Ribbon, Honor Grad Ribbon and Marksmanship Ribbon (highest score in his flight). He was asked if he would be interested in going to Special Forces, he declined stating he had no interest in killing anyone. He was also asked "What if someone was trying to kill you" he answered "I do not want to be put in that situation." Jason and Sofie served 10 years and now as private citizens they both have firearms. Out of our family I was the first to buy a firearm for the sole idea of self defense in the home. As Jason became a private home-owner he realized how vulnerable he and his family were and bought some firearms. Sofie followed suit.
I understand how parents can influence their children when being raised. I grew up around gun toys and played with neighborhood kids with these toys, but as a young family man I did not pursue having a firearm, until 3 years ago. My Son and Daughter never saw a firearm in our home or even see a toy that looked like a firearm but as they have young families of their own they have firearms in their homes. Their world as young adults is far different than my world was as a young adult.
When my kids were in the service we all bought ps3 game stations and played 'Modern Warfare" on-line together. Much fun. I played with my grandsons also. Sofie in Arizona, Jason in Colorado. Sofie is back in Rockton and her son loves firearms, loves the military channel etc. I bought him a BB gun and he is an accurate shooter. He also has many nerf toy guns and a few airsoft handguns and rifles. With his father he has shot 9mm pistols and different rifles. Elias will grow up with the idea that firearms are a right and normal thing to have. Did I help perpetuate this idea? Yes. I believe the younger you train someone with proper handling of an unloaded and loaded firearm the more responsible this person will be. This is not the only child in the U.S. to go through this procedure.
Banning firearms will be next to impossible with adults like me teaching our children (my case my grandchildren) the owning, caring and responsibility of safe handling of all firearms (even toy guns) is a right that should be taken seriously.
As a note I have never killed an animal, went on a couple of hunting trips with a neighbor and his Dad when I was a young teen. They were hunting rabbits. I personally do not want to kill an animal for sport nor for food. I probably should learn how to dress one and how to prepare it for consumption just in case if I ever have to in the future. I have a few friends and co-workers who hunt which they have the meat processed and in turn I have eaten.
I've bored you long enough.
Have a Happy New Year.

I have been watching this thread for sometime, I keep seeing the terms Assault gun, Assault weapon,
knowing the term should be used to describe a Full or selective fire weapon.
In reality a firearm use to intimidate or to inflict harm could be an assault weapon!
I see post that say the AR is not fit for hunting, however they are great for Varmint hunting (.223 cal). with light weight bullets 55 gr-90gr, Deer, Hogs .123gr and larger game. (cal 6.5, 30, 40, 45 and 50) oh and don't forget the .410 shotgun for small game.Yes there is a .410 on the AR platform.
We should be trying to educate the News media to what constitutes an Assault weapon. Ha good luck with that!!! it looks like any ugly firearm is an assault weapon.
Do we need 30 round mags? not really in fact most states restrict arms to 10 rounds or less for hunting
