Would you outlaw cars because a drunk driver killed someone on the highway? People kill people, whether with a gun, knife, baseball bat, or anything else. Enforce the gun laws on the books!

John Stossel - Gun laws that kill...

John Stossel is, at best, a shill and at worst a propagandist.

Gee Gnslngr, that's how many on this forum would describe you...

Prove it. This is nonsense.

I am incensed after reading such a poisoned statement as the one above especiallly from one of our neighbors from the North. I continue to read many opinions expressed by many non-americans about our way of living, our laws, etc., in a very critical manner.
I have visited many of the countries where these individuals come from and I what I have found is that many of them would give anything to come to the US an live here in spite of all our problems.
I can offer a lot of criticism about other countries but since I do not leave there, I just visit your countries and enjoy the good things and ignore the bad ones. It is also shameful to see that some of us ad fuel to the fire by putting our country down with our criticism giving some distorted minds the opportunity to continue to put us down. Shame on us!!!

Where did that statistic come from?

Shows the liberal bias of the national media...

Oh, right. Screw those kids. They're just collateral damage to your paranoid desire to own a gun, right?

Hey, I don't own a gun. Unless you want to count the Arisaka rifle from WWII that hasn't been fired since...As for the kids, yeah it is a pity. I only mention the % factor since you are so into quoting statistics...

Okay or not, this seems to be the non sequitur that if other problems exist, then we have no right to examine or try to correct the problem caused by guns.

I have been a competition pistol & skeet shooter for 45 years. Tough gun laws will not stop the baddies from buying guns-just make the black market even bigger.

Don't believe me--visit any pub on a Saturday night. If you have a pocket full of cash & do a bit of sniffing around, you will eventually buy a 'piece'.

Your statement is an absolute untruth. The original post pointed to facts that belie your statement; countries that have and enforce strict gun control measures experience a dramatic drop in gun deaths. Japan, for example, has 1/14 the murder rate of the US. It is obvious that Japan, though not totally stopping gun use, has managed largely to keep them out of the hands of criminals as well as law abiding citizens.

Switzerland has the LOWEST amount of killings in the world. Every household is issued a gun and they are all trained to use them. Every man serves a year in the military....no exceptions....when he becomes of age. The reason Hitler did not invade here? Think about it. The mountainous territory and every home has a gun? Now, here is the important thing. Read carefully about what our first father of this country stated about gun control. Think about it. Do you feel this country's military could take control and become a dictatorship?
If you don't think this could happen just take a look at what you local police depts. are doing. Dozens and dozens of assault and battery arrests and for what. The deadly weapon turns out to be a thrown slipper or teddy bear. Look at the not tolerance drinking ban and driving. If you are now stopped and a cop questions you as to if you had anything to drink and you respond with "just one glass of wine or one beer, you are arrested immediately and put into jail. Then it costs thousands od dollars to get your license back, classes, lawyers etc. etc. If you think this cannot happen to you, you are living in a dream world. Who does all this make money for? Towns and cities are going broke and they will get money any way they can. WE ARE BECOMING SOCIALISTIC.........
KEEP YOUR GUNS, YOU WILL NEED THEM.

Wrong! Adam Lanza was not a criminal until AFTER he pulled the trigger. Criminals are us--until they commit a criminal act.

By your logic Automobiles are responsible for deaths, not drivers.
Your logic would place the blame for pool drownings at the foot of the pool makers.

My suggestion would be to hold people accountable for their actions.

Tim McVeigh used a rented truck, 161 dead, was Avis the killer?

If someone is bent on killing, making guns illegal won't stop one death.

Thanks a bunch.
Happy New Year.

Spurious logic. Cars and pools and Avis do not exist for the purpose of taking a life. Guns have no other purpose. When you go hunting, do you do it with a pool, or a car, or a knife? Of course not. You use an instrument the sole purpose of which is to end life.

And that purpose is the problem. Perhaps if we had less instruments of death we would have less death. That makes sense to a growing number of Americans.

I am sorry, but I beg to differ. My husband has been a competitive pistol shooter, trap shooter (clay birds) and PPC shooter for many years. He has never hurt a soul with his arms, nor have any of his many friends who shoot. They are sports men and women who shoot only paper targets or clay plates.
Tell the woman who won the Olympic Shooting medal that the only purpose for guns is to end a life.
No one in this country seems to take responsibility for their own actions. They always blame something or someone other than themselves for their own errors.
As a mother, parent, a teacher, and a human being all the violence makes me heart sick, but I fail to see how punishing law abiding citizens by taking away their rights will fix it. People will always find a way to obtain guns or anything that is banned,(drugs are an example) but I don't think banning them will stop the crimes. Violence has always been with us, and I guess it always will be.
I fear who might possess the weapons when law abiding people are prevented from having them.

Typical gun nut nonsense. Don't offer any ideas or solutions, just knock what others are suggesting.

And you are different in what way? Someone enjoys firearms for sport or collecting and that makes them a "gun nut"?

Murder is illegal. That is the first law broken in everyone of these situations. What is your learned solution to stopping people from murdering one another? Fix that and perhaps we can have a real discussion about gun ownership.

As parents and grandparents we are a major influence to our childrens lives. I was raised with gun toys in the 60's. I raised my kids without guns or gun toys in our home, not a conscience decision just a different life affected by the times. Both of my kids entered the military in 1999 and both are now private citizens. I bought my first firearm 3 years ago (another one yesterday 12-30-2012), both of my kids are well armed and neither have any interest in hunting. I was raised in an gun environment and it took 51 years for me to buy my own, my kids were raised in a "gun free zone" and it took them 30 years to own. As a responsible law abiding adult living in a country that allows gun ownership it the right of that adult to purchase and own firearms if they so desire.
Paranoid? I tend to think in my situation prepared is a better word. I will not speak on my kids behalf, but if I had to guess, I would also say prepared.
As far as high capacity magazines for the semi-automatic rifles, I don't get it, my suggestion for those that think they need those is to practice on your marksmanship...one shot, one kill....not spray and pray.
