I'm ready to make the jump to a mirrorless DSLR. Looking for suggestions

First, don’t trade in any of your old equipment, at least for a while. I’ve been a Nikon user since we bought them for use in the lab back in the 90s, although I also have Canon pocket cameras (SX7100 and 710) which I use quite a bit, depending on the situation. My Nikon mirrorless is a Z7-2; my lenses are 24-200mm, 105mm macro, 100-400mm telephoto, 2X converter, and the adapter to let me use the F mount lenses. My DSLRs are D3300, D3400, D850, and the P900 Coolpix. I’m very happy with the Z7-2, and especially the fact that you can use the viewfinder when shooting video. The Z7 was an economic decision; I looked at the specs and felt like it was adequate for any of my needs, so didn’t need the Z9. Your transition to mirrorless should be easy. Finally, I sill use all my cameras and most of my lenses, depending on the situation. So my suggestion is to get whichever Nikon you can afford, and that feels good in your hands, and enjoy. My only negative learning experience with the Z7 involved the location of the f stop adjustment wheel, which makes it vulnerable to being changed inadvertently just by handling the camera, if you’re right handed, so that’s something I now pay attention to.

Resurrecting dead threads by commenting on them is not recommended. If it has been more than a month since a thread was active, then chances are, the issue in the topic has been resolved, the dead horse has been flogged at least once, and the carcass sent to the glue factory.

This thread is over THREE YEARS OLD. I'm certain that the original poster has long since made a decision and moved on.

Kindly refrain from using the term, "mirrorless DSLR," referred to in the title. There is no such thing as an SLR or dSLR without a mirror. There would be no "Reflex" without a mirror.

The intended term is Digital MILC. MILC stands for mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. (Film MILCs (for example, the Leica M6) are known as rangefinder cameras).

We all just cannot switch because the GAS gauge lights up... As a tripod based, DSLR non IBIS, my 6D will just have to accommodate the very best lenses I cannot afford.

I did find one frame not of kids and cars. With some cropping and PP its at least presentable (ignoring that really weird straight line flare).

Maybe she’s just been graced with a heavenly light.

Hello CHG Canon:

Could you explain that statement? Will mirrorless improve my composition and photo selection ands if so, how?

Best regards,

Marco J.

Mirrorless cameras are a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. Images captured from behind a mirror are cold, heartless and uncaring.

Where you can manage it, a tripod is a great upgrade for most of the "less sophisticated" cameras. Among those who see their camera as just an accesory "recording head" for their tripod, gassing for a "better" camera is kinda pointless and not overly common.

Ill sometimes get gassy about upgrading my handheld cameras, but my tripod camera is just a crude old clunker with good MF lenses. It has neatly replaced my 4x5 field cameras. Acoarst, it wont accept a Polaroid holder, but que sera sera ;-)

Someone did a lousy job of copying, cropping, and editing my image. I'm not surprised it was USER ID or SuperflyTNT. See USER ID's post on 4/23 at 13:46 (before Admin hopefully removes it). You can see my original image under the topic "Something I've only seen once".

PS: I did not grant anyone permission to edit my image!

No one has permission to copy and edit my images especially when done so poorly!

So my trying to suggest that your work has some degree of creative potential is just rain on your parade ? OK. So heres your photo in question, intact as you posted it earlier.

Within it, I saw a possible cropping and had posted it as showing creative potential lurking in there. But that was a full color intact image, which bothers you.

Attached below your original is my own "rough sketch" of suggested cropping, divorced from all other aspects of your photo. IOW its not a full edit of your photo, just a sketch about the potential composition I saw. Check it out.

Posting image litter into the main discussion does not fall under that limit. If you didn't know that, now you do.

Oh, now it's a SKETCH. I know you consider yourself as an Artist. Most of what I've seen you post is (I'll put it gently) not to my liking. You should also note that that image was posted with the following text..."Nothing special, just a snapshot of something I haven't seen in many, many years".

DO NOT COPY OR EDIT MY IMAGES!!

Thanks so much for your input but NO ONE HAS PERMISSION TO COPY OR EDIT MY IMAGES NOR TRANSFER THEM FROM THE PHOTO GALLERY TO THE MAIN PHOTOGRAPHY DISCUSSION!
