Why are you now worried about copyright infringement? How long has the HOG been publishng these comments and pictures? Has somebody threatened a lawsuit? Keep up your good work and thoughts!

Are we not chit chatting right now ? Why does anyone visit ANY site on the Hog ? I even occasionally visit the attic but my sanity does not allow too long a stay. At least I try not to be too rude and obnoxious. It's all good, we are just a microcosm of the internet and society itself. Gee, you HAD to ask that question...

I was thinking about what happened with this even before you posted. I think that the owner of the copyright of The Far Side noticed that their cartoons were posted here without compensation and objected. Copyright owners expect to be paid when their content is distributed. You don't see blockbuster movies posted on the free version of YouTube. Disney in particular is said to monitor YouTube and have their content taken down when they see it. (I was surprised recently when I saw a full copy of Song of the South posted on YouTube. I'm not going to bother to check if it's still there.) How would any copyright owner know if their content is posted anywhere? Probably Google.

I'm sure they are, so you should summarize rather than copy the exact definition.

What's a shame about YouTube is that anyone can claim copyright violation on any YT post, and the post will probably be deleted. Many YouTubers have posted complaining about this.

Many companies will buy thousands of patents and then hire people to go through them to see if they can sue someone over a violation. What a ridiculous situation.

I will be following this bc posting cartoons (mostly memes, but cartoons included) is a thing I like to do. Three points.

1. Found cartoons on the internet - on various social media sites like Facebook, are already posted on a lot of sites. Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, etc. If there are copyright violations they are violated up and down, left and right.

2. There is fair use, although I am not sure how that applies to UHH. The poster (like me) is not profiting, but maybe the Admins at UHH are concerned since there are ads here and someone is presumably profiting? No idea who or how. But that seems to be a legit point. I will watch out for that.

3. About Gary Larson and Beyond the Far Side. Those cartoons are a known exception. The managers of those cartoons are definitely trying to not have them be posted w/o permission. That is why the Admin here has singled out Gary Larson cartoons. It's like posting Disney stuff. Don't . Do . It.

Your comment said you preferred talking about gear. I thought you were serious and had simply taken a wrong turn on your way to main discussion forum

Or they have their own, specially designed search engines?

Now I think the UHH should have a section to discuss just about gears. That way the gear discussions are not in the Main area and nobody is talking about the 6" behind the camera. We should have the area to just talk about the cameras and lenses etc.. without someone talking about the 6" .

I am sooooo in agreement!!

Alas, the 6 inches behind the camera is apparently not what interests most regulars here.

Sorry Linda... Just a little sarcasm about gear. BUT, I do love gear talk. Actually I love chit chat very much... Since my wife is disabled and I do all the shopping you should see me in the grocery store.
