I just purchased a Nikon D500 camera from KEH camera that looks like new. A friend recommended this camera and KEH. I want to get a back up battery. Any recommendations for off brand batteries, other than Nikon or should I stay with the Nikon battery?? Thank you.
Although this topic has been reviewed & commented on by thousands over the years here at Ugly; just pony up the $$$ and buy a camera brand if you like long-life batteries that simply "work," in the clinch...

And I have always used aftermarket... Voltage is the same... size is the same... a big cost difference. Last as long? Probably, made in the same China factory. Chief EW ...Elitists will waste your money.
PS: the new chargers with LED fullness indicators are great.... packages of 2 batteries and a charger are good deals.
I have never had a problem with after-market batteries. They are very well made in the same factory.
Do you think that Nikon makes their own?
I've had good luck with Wasabi. Although, after a few years 2-3, they bloat at which point I throw away and re-buy.

And neither does Wasabi make batteries.

I agree.
I have used both since I started over 20 years ago. Can't say I have noticed a difference.
What is that saying about a fool and money?

How could you POSSIBLE know what factory they are made in.

If they blot at the wrong time you could have an issue getting them out and ruin your golden opportunity. Mine swelled when I was practicing for the 2017 eclipse and I had to remove it w/o taking it off a tracking telescope. Would have ruined a once in a life time chance. I'm glad I caught it in one of my 25 practice runs
The D500 is notoriously picky about batteries. IMHO you should only use genuine Nikon batteries in this body.
I've used generic batteries in everything forever. Wasabi seems to be a popular brand. The only "problem" I've encountered is with a generic battery on a Canon camcorder. The camera doesn't want to communicate with the battery, so I don't know how much time is left. Looking online, all I see are generic batteries for this camera. I don't want to pay double or triple for virtually the same item with a brand name.
