Now that I started remembering there are many others memories
- my grandpa who lived in a one room shanty probably 20x20 a 100 ft or so from our house. I had my first drink of coffee with him. Mom was mad said it would stunt my growth. He had a wood stove, a two burner kerosene table stove an old radio, a bed and a table .
I grew up with him , long walk in the woods with Grampy and my two dogs Chip and Whitey.

Playing baseball and Saturday night dates.

Around 1963 sometime, my parents bought me a 4-door 55 Olds Rocket 88 beast that was close to being painted faded John Deere green. Bench seats, large diameter steering wheel, and no seat belts made for an interesting combination when I occasionally took a corner or curve a little too fast. How do you control a hulking car like that while sliding across the seat?

Dear 47greyfox,

Yes, but most of us survived !

To many to list, I miss everything from the 50s, up to the early 60s, then everything started going downhill.

Yeah. There was a kind of innocence then. First Mercury, then Gemini, the Moon, and the stars! We Can Do It!

I also miss Lemon Merengue Pie where the merengue was no deeper than the lemon! 😋 And the taste of pizza. Maybe my taste buds are old and tired, but those 25¢ slices were great. And Grandma's Christmas stollen. (Hah! No wonder I was overweight as a kid!)

Finally, I miss songs where (a) the words were comprehensible and (b) the instruments didn't drown them out.

. . . Also several studies have confirmed that those who attend church services have lower mental health issues than those who don't.

Which studies, please?

Correction....I do miss this. Though luckily my wife of nearly nearly 40 years is tattoo and piercing free.

And not only that. The bench seat made it easier and convenient for your girlfriend to sit close you while you were cruising around!!

...... and the back seat was for .... uh .... other things ...

I agree with you, RiJoRi, my favorite music from from early 60s to mid 70s, then the crap started. The first pizza I tasted was in Iowa 1963, the crust tasted like cardboard and about as thin.

I forgot to mention my Mom's cooking. The best ever. Also her desserts. I loved her cinnamon rolls, but she made the best pies: apple, cherry, apple cream, and for something really special rhubarb cream pies.

There isn't much I miss from the old days except maybe the false memories - the nostalgia.

I could buy a local paper for a dollar or more a day, but I can also read it online for a fraction of that price. I could also drive to the library to look up something in the encyclopedia. However, my phone has more detailed and current information available. I donated my set of Brittanica to the local high school. I think the old days were nice as memories and as shown on TV and in movies.

Just grabbed some rhubarb at the farmers' market to make pies. Once a year treat as rhubarb doesn't grow in TN heat and the frozen stalks just aren't the same. We can revive and relive some of the things we miss, but there are too many gone for good.

My first pizza was at Vic's Pizza in Bradley Beach, NJ in 1947, the year the they expanded the bar and added a kitchen and dinning room. I lived two blocks from Vic's. Now, I live 55 miles from Vic's. Same pizza as in 47', same knotty pine walls. The pizza has not deviated from 47'. Now, I drive 110 miles, round trip, to enjoy the pizza. We usually go with my friend and his wife. We've been doing that for 77+ years. It's that good!!

I definitely have to try Vic's. I'm only a little farther than you. MapQuest puts it at 65 miles from my house. Vic's and I believe there's a deli that you also mention occasionally although the name escapes me at the moment
