I stopped buying generic when my 7D MII kept cutting off while doing videos after a couple of minutes. I finally realized it was only doing it with the generic and not Canon batteries.

I buy mine for my Canon R6 and Canon HF G-60 from Amazon with no problems. Power Extra and BM Premium.

I once had the OEM Nikon battery for my Nikon D80 start to melt in the camera.
Original equipment doesn't always guarantee superiority over aftermarket batteries.

I dunno why you think it implies he bought a camera. It seemed pretty clear he was talking about the battery. You wouldn’t use “OEM” in describing the camera.

Didnt you know that all the grey market cameras are made by elves in Wuhan ?

I always try to use Nikon OEM when available. Always have great results.
The colors are waaaaay better, noise is reduced and you can use all your pixels.

I would purchase a Nikon battery.

Don

Especially a non-counterfeit Nikon battery.
Be very specific about that to your vendor.

Some vendors may carry all three types:
Genuine OEM
Counterfeit OEM
Genuine Watson, Wasabi, etc etc

Its always possible you had a counterfeit Nikon battery. OTOH no one bothers with counterfeiting the third party brands.

Any battery can get really hot and thaz a camera issue, not a faulty battery. Some newer cameras have thermal breakers.

I don't know if they have Genuine Counterfeit one. One that is made in the same factory with the same workers and and same materials only they were made extra from the OEM order and were sold cheaply. There are a lot of those in shoes.

First, great camera....excellent choice. Batteries, so much has been written with folks on both sides...Buy name brand only, "I've used Brand X for years never an issue."
I've tried a few off brands and then took a "deep dive". Charging voltages: Any off brand that sells a battery where the battery can be charged with a different voltage ...I steer clear of. (Take a look at Nikons Tech Specs on the charging unit). Battery itself...I believe the latest Rev for the D-500 battery is Rev C & it clearly states the MaH, so if you're buying off brand make sure they match. Also look at battery temperature spewcs during use.

To me it really came down to this.....I can afford to spend $$$XXXX.XX for a well built camera, am I really worried about a few $XX to save?....
First, great camera....excellent choice. Batteries... (show quote)

You believe that a difference in MaH rating affects compatibility, quality, safety and-or reliability ?!??! You think theres a problem with variable charging voltages ??!!?? And youre a certified battery engineer ??!!!??

Possibly a genuine copy of a counterfeit fake ? I buy only Christian Diore designer batteries, with the signature in the hologram although I admit Im just not sold on this seasons colors.

There are many battery factories in China. How do you know which one makes which. Granted so far all the Li-ion batteries for cameras I have seen were made in China but how do you know if 2 bateries came from the same factory?

I would humbly suggest there are many battery NAMES from China. I base this on tons of microphones, cheap cameras, audio players, small appliances and so much more that are identical with many different names.

I'm always happy to be proved wrong.

In fact it's likely the OEM and the third party batteries are not made in the same factory simply because when Canon or Nikon contract a factory to make their batteries they probably have an agreement that the factory not making the same battery for third party.

Until they "close" for the day.
