The utility company is doing a great job and nice pics Mike.

Thanks, Peter, as a local/state project the refuge and its center gets support from local businesses.

Now that is a great photograph in all respects and the red barn sets it off perfectly. Well done.

The main reason that I went to Farmington Bay last week was to check on the heron nesting at the Eccles Wildlife Education Center. Our local power company, Rocky Mountain Power, has installed nine long poles with platforms to allow the GBH a place to nest safe from land based predators. As you can see in #1, the pricy high-level spots have already been taken.

Mating and hatching are well under way as seen in #3.

Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Thanks for this informative post, Mike. This is a very interesting management step and one that could be implemented to good effect on the Pacific flyway refuges. Beautiful photos!

Thanks, Phil. I have no idea how widespread this practice is.

Thanks, Larry, this is a swamp and large trees are rare.

Amazing (bird) condos.
How special that people have gone to the trouble to give the
birds a (refuge) of their own to rest and lay eggs.
