I have never had a problem with an off-brand battery.
Neither have I. But I have noticed that they do not last quite as long as the OEM.
But 5+ years for the price is good.

Which camera does this LP-E5 goes into? Actually batteries is what I worry about. You can't stock up batteries because even if you don't use them they still go bad in time. Memory cards you can stock up. I hate to have a camera in perfect working condition yet no battery.
It is used by the Canon T1i, among others.
So far, Watson still makes them.
Yea, that would be a major bummer if batteries, any batteries, were no longer available!
I still have four that are in good shape, so far.

Thanks to all the responses. I think I will stay with the Nikon batteries.
I’ve used several different varieties of EN-EL15 batteries. Never any swelling and the only one I’ve had die was a Nikon battery. Do you really think Nikon is actually manufacturing their own batteries?

And when an OEM is no longer available?????
While I’m a proponent of third party batteries I’m pretty sure his particular battery won’t be going by the wayside anytime soon. The same battery is used in most of their mirrorless cameras.

THAT's good!
Not all manufacturers do that, many develop a new battery for new models.....

I just purchased a Nikon D500 camera from KEH camera that looks like new. A friend recommended this camera and KEH. I want to get a back up battery. Any recommendations for off brand batteries, other than Nikon or should I stay with the Nikon battery?? Thank you.
I have:
Nikon camera bodies - Z6, Z6ii and a Z8 (previously had a d7200 also)
Nikon batteries - (1)EN-EL15, (2)EN-EL15b, (2)EN-EL15c
3rd party batteries - (2)BM-ENEL15C (BM is the manufacturer)
All 7 batteries work in the Z6's, but the 3rd party ones will not work in my Z8. I get a compatibility message when installed in the Z8.
The EL15c version has more capacity than the EL15 (2280mAh vs 1900mAh). I don't know the costs of any these batteries today but if I were only buying one I think I'd be leaning toward the Nikon EL15c.
Just my 2 cents. Hope this helps.
Alan
ps. I don't think you'll have any trouble finding compatible batteries in future since Nikon is still using these in their current models.
I just bought a new EN-EL14a for my Df. The original battery is over 10 year old and it seems not last as long as it was. I think all the cameras that use this battery are discontinued so they may not make this battery any more in a few years.

The problem is going to be finding alternate batteries in the future.
The D500 is 8 years old, my T1i is 14 years old.
The older cameras all work just fine, but people keep "upgrading", which over time reduces the customer base for the older camera batteries. Luckily some batteries are still in demand, while others are falling by the wayside.
At some point, those with older, perfectly working cameras, will be forced to get a current model camera because good, well made batteries are (will be) no longer available. I don't think I would buy from Bingo Batteries....
Glad my Sony H-1 takes AAs, it's only 18 years old.
(Time flies when you're having fun.)
Isn't technology attrition great?
The problem is going to be finding alternate batte... (

The D500 (which I still have and my wife uses) works fine with the batteries for the recently introduced Nikon Z8. So not a problem in this case at the present time.
[quote=dpullum]And I have always used aftermarket... Voltage is the same... size is the same... a big cost difference. Last as long? Probably, made in the same China factory. Chief EW ...Elitists will waste your money.
“Same factory” means nothing. They only build to the specs requested by the contract, many ‘knockoffs” are built to lesser specifications.

I always buy from Watson.
Narry a problem.
Do a search and check the recent box. Been many threads on this.
You spent thousands a camera and lens why try to save a few dollars.
I had an off brand swell inside mine but could have been a fluke

Did you charge the battery in the camera?
