I’m going to give a miniature rose a try in my flower bed.

Thanks

Oh I'm so glad. I'll bet you will love it. I have moved from there, but I am going to have a red one, a pink one and a yellow one here this year for sure. (and maybe a white one).
It will take them a while to get that big but sprinkle a little Epsom Salt around the base (out about 2 inches from the plant) about once every 3 months and they should do great. After mine got some size to it, all I ever gave it was plenty of water every few days.
Best wishes.

That is beautiful, Jo! We have a couple of fairy rose bushes. I think one died. Julie loves them. No complaints from me either. Nice story also. Thanks!

Thank you Tom. Buy Julie some new ones of each color. Don't tell her I suggested it. She'll think it's all your own idea and make you a favorite pie or cake! LOL! Wishing y'all a happy day!

Oh my, you should go there. They have everything, not just farm stuff. There's not one near me or I'd be there once a week to see what's new. They have delicious Amish jams and jellies, all kinds of food, things for the house, decorations for the yard, You can't imagine. Go when you have plenty of time so you can see everything. It's a BIG place. They usually have free coffee and free popcorn. I have to make sure I stay away from the cakes and candy, especially the salt water taffy.
When I lived in Tn, we had 77 horses, 27 ducks, 40 chickens, a pit pig, pet goat and about 30 barn cats (BIG horse barn) Pig and goat never lived inside a fence. They ran free in the yard with our 2 great Danes and German Shepherd. We called it the funny farm.
When Joe passed away, I could not take care of all that so I moved to town in Alabama to be near my son and DIL. I hate living in town but I was 92 when he passed away and I knew I'd better get situated before I got OLD. LOL!
I am finally getting used to being 2 blocks from my pharmacy, Little Caesar's Pizza, the Dollar tree and Auto Zone, 2 miles from Walmart other stores, the river and the huge waterfall in town, so I'm OK.
Seriously...check out Rural King. You'll be glad you did!

Okay, you convinced me, I'll be going up there this weekend and check out Rural King. If we had lived near you and Carol had met you I probably would've hardly ever seen her because she would have been at your place volunteering to help you with all those horses. She loved horses so much. Her quarter horse's name was "Major". She used to tell me about him sneaking up behind her and stealing her Pepsi-cola and drinking the rest of it down. I believe they only have 2 cats in the barn now, and they got rid of their turkeys last year and they still have ducks and the Angus, and finally a baby girl coming up on two years. She said that is enough work for her now since Dan does an awful lot of cement work in Cincinnati just about everyday, and it is about 65 or 70 miles south of where they live. Thanks for the info about Rural King. I'll let you know what I find.

Yes, please let me know what you find there. I know you will be glad you went.
I want to tell you something. Horse lovers are good people. Here's why I say that. They can compete against each other at horse shows and still become best friends and if something happens to one of them, they all run to help. AND I have over 2,000 customers who have bought horse paintings from me for over 60 years for every occasion and in all that time, I have had only ONE bad check. How many people in any kind of business can say they have had only 1 bad check????? I can tell, I would have loved Carol. We'd have had so many horse stories to tell and many that would make us burst out laughing. She would have been a special friend, I just know.

You have all seen the beautiful miniature roses Walmart sells close to Mother's Day every year.
Many of you may (like I did long ago) may have thought of them as house plants only to find out that they will die in the house.
I'm not sure how far north they are hardy but one year I was given this pink one and as usual it started to die. I decided that since it was dying anyway, I'd take a chance and see if it would survive outside. THIS is what happened. I let it get up to 7 feet tall once.
Here's the good part. When the blooms all die, trim 3 or 4 inches off and it will bloom again quickly. Make sure it has water every day for the first 3 weeks then water WELL at least twice a week. This one was hardy outside in NW Tn on the Ky line, so I know they do well there.
They come in red, pink, yellow and white.

I really like this set Jo. Just goes to show that nothing ever happens until you give it a try. Also notice how well your bench (with horses) compliments your rose bushes. Bet that wasn't an accident either. Good job.

Hey Reuss. Glad you like it. I moved from there but I bet you will believe that I brought my bench with me. The wood has rotted, but I am going to put new wood if it ever stops raining here. Hopefully tomorrow after I get home from the gym. It's going to go on my enclosed porch so it won't be out in the rain any more.
Look at my red roses the corner of my barn in Tn. Gonna plant some by my shed in the back yard.
I kinda like roses, ya think?

I share your love of roses. Have had many different types but never the minis like yours. I am in an apartment now and have a small patio for flowers but not enough light for roses.

Now that's sad!!! But I'll bet you have some nice shade lovers out there!
I'm glad I have a good place for them but very unhappy that I have no place for horses now.
Nothing stays the same forever. Change is not always easy but we can adapt when we have to.

I love the story and never apologize for your work! I often purchased these for my mom, and yeah, they never lasted. Yours were beautiful, and talk about getting your money's worth! It's the gift that keeps on giving. I love the close-up in the hand. Different perspective!

Thanks for sharing this!

I'm glad you like it Barbara. Those are old pictures, probably made with a 3 mp camera years ago.
These little roses do well in a large pot on a balcony or patio too if you have room.
I am also glad to see you posting some of your beautiful work here. Keep shooting and bring it on.
