Someone suggested a little more DOF for better sharpness with birds. That's why I tried f 8. If I could get the bird to stay put, I'd be tempted to run a whole series of combinations just to see what happens.
As I learn more this all becomes less trial and error and more conscious decision. My success rate isn't great, but it's improving little by little. The trouble is, I don't know what success I've had until I get shots downloaded on the computer. That little LCD screen on the camera doesn't give me enough quality feedback.
