These are almost straight out of the camera - cropped and with a little sharpening. Fortunately this guy was willing to sit still. Focus was manual, Pentax K-7, 300 mm lens, f8, ISO 400, aperture priority speeds ranging from 1/180-350.

I absolutely love these shots - thank you for sharing them.

In only an attempt to learn and possibly showing my ignorance, I've a few questions. I don't know that lens (or big lenses for that matter), but wondering if f8 was a conscious choice? Seems like super nice bokeh in the shots and a small DOF doesn't seem like it would be a problem given a small subject, so I'm wondering with daylight and a sitting bird, could you have opened that aperture up and taken the ISO to 100? May have produced less grain? I'm just trying to learn in the event I ever get a better lens, so PLEASE don't take this as any form of criticism - just wanting to learn.

Thank you again - super nice captures!

Is that the DA*300 Vicky? The K-7 still does a great job.
Very nice shots

I'm not sure what DA is but my lens is a Pentax 300. I bought the K-7 going on 3 years ago as a replacement for a Pentax SLR so I could continue to use the lenses. The 300 was a Christmas present and now lives on the K-7. I recently bought a Canon 60D with a kit zoom as a back up.

I think these were better shots than I've gotten in the past thanks to much good advice on this forum.

I truly appreciate your taking time to look and comment.
