Well, I’m sorry you had to buy a new phone, but now you know all will turn out just fine. Congrats.

Nothing on the lenses. I called Apple and wasted 45 minutes. I then took it to a nearby mall. There are two phone repair kiosks there. I took and showed the phone to the proprietor of the first one and without any hesitation at all told me that "the camera is shot and has to be replaced". $125. I then took it to the next kiosk and without any hesitation, the gal told me that it needed a new camera. $80. A half hour later, my granddaughter and I walked away with a perfectly functioning iPhone and a big smile.

I'm glad you were able to get it fixed and now your granddaughter can get back to work taking photos.

New camera, not a new phone. All for only $80. I figure we made out pretty good. Don't you?

We're taking our kids on a cruise to the Bahamas next week for school vacation. It was imperative to get the phone in operating condition.

If you still have the phone check this. The Iphone 12 has 2 rear cameras and 1 front facing camera. Check and see if all three have the same problem. I bet only one does.

Do cell phones really have multiple cameras or just different lenses

They do have multiple cameras as it's actually easier to make them that way that make them switch lenses.

Depending on age, I have discovered that grandkids may interpret "getting dropped" or "getting wet" differently than we might, especially if they think that they might get into trouble. 😉
