Alas, black and white is nostalgic for me to look at, but most of my memories are of people; friends, forever gone… nice trip down memory lane, so thank you Paul.

I like the look of the Acros…….the buildings in the first shot are blowing over as they are tilting towards the center……

This is a unique feature of some lenses when in a position too close to a subject. This is known as the scheimpflug principle.

You can buy a Tilt-Shit lens to correct for this distortion. It does take time and practice. Having a tripod on hand helps.

Thank you Bill, John, Michael, Basil, tcthome, Carol, Earnest, Ben, Mike, TOG, J11, Steven, John N, jrvinson45! I haven't used the new Acros so much. These images might be just the second roll, third at most. It's kind of expensive, especially compared to all the expired film I bought at $1 or $2 a roll in bulk purchased I made a few years ago. I do really like the virutal grain-free look of these results.

The UHH Film section has been a slow growth. Our member Jim / J11 posted some of his AcrosII results, for another view of this film in action:

Steven, Basil_O - we tend to forget what 'uncorrected' images look like nowadays in a near all-digital world. That said, most of these film results have lens profiles and corrections 'forced' onto the scanned JPEGs in Lightroom. Your comments prompted me to look at this first image in my LRCAT. That first skyline view stands out as tilted / bent, especially when compared to later images that were more heavily edited (aka straightened).

I really like the last image with skyline offset from Al Bundy’s fountain. Well done, Paul!

I know. I was just giving Paul a little ribbing. I have a T/S lens from the time I shot interior and exterior shots of the Assisted Living properties owned by the company I used to work for. It reminds me of one of my big pet peeves: seeing marketing images of buildings and houses that have converging angles or crooked horizons. In today's world of digital imaging, it is very easy to correct if you don't get it right at the time of capture. It makes me wonder about those companies. If they don't care enough to take a few extra moments to present a decent image, then what else do they cut corners on or don't care about?

Paul: I love the black and white shots of the city.

Acros II is extremely fine grain with a wide tonal range. The film is an excellent choice for landscapes, macro, and fine art applications, anything where a lack of film grain is desired.

Grant Park's North Rose Garden

Neopan was originally a family of black-and-white films from Japanese manufacturer Fujifilm. Now in 2024, only one film remains: Neopan ACROS 100 II, a traditional silver halide black and white film re-launched in 2019 and currently sold worldwide.

Buckingham Fountain is a Chicago landmark in the center of Grant Park. Dedicated in 1927, it is one of the largest fountains in the world. The fountain operates from April to October, with regular water shows and evening color-light shows. During the winter, the fountain is decorated with festival lights.

Chicago's skyline is one of the world's tallest and easily ranks among the most magnificent. Chicago boasts four of America's eight tallest buildings.
