That's good for the people that may live there.
We don't buy that much at Walmart, Target, et. al.
I guess we just don't buy (need) that much in general...
My savings at Giant Grocery is nice though, but it's a free "membership".

Sorry, but your Giant membership isn't free. It's just that you pay for membership with each purchase you make. If you shop only sale items at Giant, you will do alright , but how often can you shop and only buy sale items? Who actually sits around waiting for just the item they want to go on sale? We shop mostly at Sam's, Walmart, Aldis and occasionally Giant and Wegmans. Every few years a magazine will do an article about club shopping. It points out they can save you about 33% by shopping these clubs. That's true for any of the three club chains -- Sam's, Costco, or BJs. Check out just gas for instance. I bought gas at Sam's last week for 3.11 while the going rate around town was 3.29 to 3.59. Buying gas alone pays for a membership. If you opt for the Prime membership you also get 5% off in rebates as well as 3% back when you charge on your Sam's Mastercard. the 5% gas rebate is good from any gas station other than Costco and BJs. This year (2023) I received 387.00 in rebates. This alone would cover over three years of membership. I would only recommend the charge card for those who pay off their cards at the end of each billing cycle. Interest rates on any card issued by retailers is high but by paying the balance when due, you not only pay zero interest, but also get to use some else's money for a month.

I don't know if this is something new, but you can become a Walmart Member for just $98 a year. Why would you want to do that? You could save $1,300 a year! I don't have the details, and I'm not interested enough to look.

It's their answer to Amazon Prime.

I never use the self checkout. It takes someone's job away, and makes me do the work. More importantly, I would miss the conversation with another human!

Good point about the human contact but even that is iffy. Many times I've met with surley employees who hate their job or just have a disinterested attitude about you or life in general. As far as taking away jobs, think again -- notice how virtually every business is begging for help? Most displaced cashiers are shuffled to other areas of need.

I know that delivery is free over a certain limit, but I doubt they would have someone deliver groceries to me, almost twenty miles away.

For example, I could pick this up for free: Bartender's Friend, 21 oz $2.24. Amazon is selling a 12 oz two-pack for $8.00. That $0.10/oz vs $0.33/oz.

The word is ‘velleity’, meaning concerned or interested, but not enough to actually do something.

You get free online shopping and delivery including groceries. The delivery is prompt at my Walmart and there is no minimum order...I think. If they don't have an item in stocks the email you with suggestion etc.

The " Delivery " is awful if you live a little rural. They farm it out to independent services that don't know what they are doing. My wife STOPPED Walmart delivery because of too many screwups.

If Paramount+ had more to offer that appealed to me, I might be tempted to get the membership. Getting a $2.00 item delivered for free would also be a plus.

I met a guy eating alone in an empty Jack's hamburger joint a few blocks from location of my latest post in the Smartphone area...( Section, Alabama ). Come to find out his wife had just passed and that he was also an ex mayor of a neighboring town... The guy just wanted conversation... Come to find out we had both just bought new KIAs. You NEVER know where friendly conversation will get you. Very rewarding. You should see me in the grocery stores since I do all the shopping now.... MOTOR MOUTH. Actually I was just commenting the previous mention of " Conversation ".

Is it possible that you get free shipping for on-line orders? Amazon Prime makes money on this process.

They make money only if you do not use it. Shipping is expensive these days. I order a lot from Amazon rather than fight the traffic and crazed crowds at Walmart and other places. So I think I get my money's worth from Prime. Also if one lives near an Amazon warehouse you often get next-day or even same-day delivery if it is delivered by Amazon trucks.

I figure with 6-8 next or same day deliveries I break even, after that most of my deliveries are free. And there is also Prime TV, which is probably worth $5-8 per month.

I'm receiving an overnight delivery from Amazon today. I notice they list what the shipping cost would have been without Prime. In this case, $10.76. Online shopping makes spending money very easy. On the plus side, it's easy to read reviews and buy the better product.

I've more or less given up on Prime TV - too many ads now.

Not Amazon reviews. I mean reviews by YouTube people who review various items.
