Tell us what exactly has trump put forth as a specific plan to:

1) increase number of housing units to equalize supply and demand?
2) lower mortgage rates other than what Fed is currently doing?
3) keep unemployment low?
4) keep job growth strong?
5) keep increasing wages?
6) bring inflation down to 2% besides what Fed is already doing?
7) keep GDP growth strong?
8) improve foreign relations?
9) provide stability, predictability, and great legislation helping the middle class that keeps wall street positive and 401(k)'s grow?
10) hold corps accountable for price gouging?

He's inheriting all of that after Biden corrected from the prior trump admin course.

In a capitalist economy how does Biden “increase the number of housing units to equalize supply and demand” without again using taxpayer dollars to pick winners and losers paying incentives to contractors to lower costs for some segments or creating more regulations requiring contractors to build low income housing at a loss in order to get permitted for other projects? Progressives ultimate goal is high density housing in the cities eventually squeezing out the suburbs. “Stalinist Urbanism” anyone?

Yes, it will take spending to bring the supply demand to a better equilibrium. Some reports say that's beginning to happen. The crunch is in places like here where people moved for remote work, better climate, better tax conditions, and jobs created by IRA and Infrastructure bills.

I'm not sure how much of this plan was included in the most recent bill.

What's trump's plan?

Next step is federal “guaranteed income” as is being tried in some jurisdictions already. Heaven forbid we ever address disparities at the root problem, including personal responsibility as part of the equation. Guess it’s just easier to keep your constituents on the same plantation they have been for decades, convince them they can’t achieve due to socioeconomic hurdles and keep throwing money at them. Sounds like a really sustainable plan!

Your premise assumes that dependency on welfare programs is growing, yet reports are showing decreases in both enrollment and expenditures in Medicaid and other welfare programs.

Seems to me your Medicaid “unwinding” is largely attributed to winding down government’s compulsory compliance more than need and what evidence do you have that welfare payments have decreased (not counting any termination of Covid era programs). I believe future reporting will certainly show an uptick with the millions of new migrants taxing the system.

Just have projections at this time due to lag in getting data after all Covid related programs are ended. But, the projections do continue on a decreasing slope versus a sudden drop which indicates that there are other variables besides covid-related aid to consider. Skip to page 7 where the charts show projections for aid to children.

I have no reason to doubt the numbers presented in the chart you offered however, as you know, money is fungible and when given to states the statistics get blurred. For instance, although California (if sovereign being the 5th largest economy in the world ahead of England and India) represents 11% of the national population it spends 1/3 of the welfare. We have 1/4 of the illegal/undocumented immigrants in the country and 28% of the homeless population. If you looked at typical AFDC (aid for families with dependent children [welfare in California]) you would not see the actual welfare spending as we have many programs that assist those below the poverty line under different programs (to the tune of billions of dollars) such as Kin-GAP, foster care assistance and various guardianship programs, housing assistance, utilities assistance, Snap cards and now illegals qualify for Medical (Medicaid).

California has a projected 70 billion dollar deficit this year which doesn’t account for the 1.2 trillion (yes trillion) dollar unfunded liability from CalPers (state retirement system). We have one of the worst education systems, highest income taxes, highest gasoline tax, highest poverty (sorry Mississippi) and a high speed train than may someday speed you through grape and almond orchards (if we still have water) in the Central Valley which is already 100 billion dollars in the red.

California is coming to a state near you, Gavin Newsom, 2024!

Very much so as it is like putting a bandaid on a gaping chest wound. The cal matters report suggests a 2.1 billion cut and defer/delay 4.6 billion. That represents .7 of 1% cut and 1.5% delay/deferral while suggesting taxing managed medical plans (citizens who pay their own freight) to help pay the 4 billion dollar bill for illegals/undocumented to receive free medical. The deficit is still over 70 billion and we are still throwing over 100 billion on yesterday’s transportation technology. One critic suggested that we will be teleporting before that train to nowhere is completed. Remember, Newsome and the legislature turned hundreds of billions from federal govt and Covid bailouts in 2021 into this 70 billion dollar deficit in short order.

So I have been told. I better ask the doctor if Tramadol comes in flavors - maybe as M&Ms?

I don't follow CA economy much, but will be checking in on this from time to time. The overall budget is bloated, but the plan to make up the deficit seems doable without new taxes. You living it know so much more.
