I hope your buyer realizes that it always pays to do the right thing and will follow through.

Me too.

For those tossing out judgement, I didn’t post this for that or to invite me being trashed in some manner. It was just a reminder that mistakes can be made and care needs to be taken in these deals. Let’s just let it rest at this having been on both me and the buyer. Thank you.

I sold a camera the other day, along with some other gear and a camera back pack the other day to a gentleman………

Since I have never met either of you gents, I am presuming both of you are honest. Since I have had similar Mis-encounters, I don’t use cash, credit or other types of payment. I will get a money order from the US Postal Service.
I had one bad experience with a fellow Hogger. While I made everything right, I didn’t want to lose a friend. Since then, no checks just money orders.

I’ve never had anything to do with money orders because they can be counterfitted by crooks.

You should consider that the OP transaction was in person. Both counted the money but somehow both miscounted the money.

The same thing happened to me selling an RV for $20k. Counting out $100 bills. The guy was shorting me $1000. Took more than 3 recounts to prove it to the buyer especially when he first claimed he had given me all he had. But he had more in his truck. I finally got my the full amount. Still not sure if it was a deliberate attempt to deceive or not.

You make it sound like it is his fault... It does not appear to be so when reading your account.

Note: Snail mail works. Cost? A stamp and you get your 'missing cash'.

The U.S. Postal Service specifically states "DO NOT SENT CASH THROUGH THE POSTAL SYSTEM"

Fingers crossed - hoping your seller is honest and makes it right.

There is, apparently. a technique for this mini-scam. Sold a VW Vanagan some years ago and the guy pulled the same trick on me. I think they fold a bill in the middle of the stack and hold the bills in a pile.

It’s easy to happen. Thankfully it’s not a huge amount of $$.

Fwiiw, I recently assisted a community organization with a large rummage sale. Thousands of dollars were transferred in small amounts. We accepted Zelle and it worked perfectly. And it’s safe, accurate. Etc. Maybe next time!

It was just that, a mistake, and mistakes happen, but a seller, for whatever the amount is, does have a right to expect the correct, agreed-upon price. In the end, it’s a matter of honor and honesty. If the guy makes good on it, good on him, if not, boo on him. That’s just life.

A self-employed person taught me that lesson a long time ago when she told me "That's the way it goes. First your money and then my clothes".😁
