yes you are spot on with the quartz. my quartz wristwatch i checked for a period of months and it loses 15 secs per month. also with quartz they will usually be consistent with their error, ie. will always lose 15 sec per month, whereas mechanical watches go plus or minus depending on lots of factors.

I have this HP41 calculator with the quartz watch. It has the function to fine tune the watch. So after watch it for a long time I can enter the correction factor and I could get it to be accurate to a few seconds a year. Mechanical watches can be off 5 to 10 seconds a day but on average it's not too bad as sometimes it's fast and sometimes it's slow not consitantly fast or slow like the quartz watch.

No, try Arizona where you don't have to worry about a stinking signal from Colorado.

Actually I don't think about changing the time but about keeping the clock accurate. I have no problem reset the clocks twice a year but clocks unless sync by some time standard source are not accurate. I have to set my independent clocks much more often than twice a year.

My cellphone and computers are accurate enough for me and they don't get worn out resetting every time someone wants to save daylight...🤪🤪🤪

both your phone and computer use the internet to sync the clock and of course internet time is accurate enough. But independent clocks are not accurate. As I said early most quartz clocks only accurate to 15 seconds a month and that bother me more than the fact that I have to reset them twice a year. I think I reset my clocks more often than once a month.

Once when we were staying a few months south of Lake Havasu City Arizona, my cellphone would change a few times a day between California time and Arizona proper time. Talk about frustrating.

I've had three atomic clocks since 2017, and every time we skip ahead or fall back, they take weeks to adjust. Not one of the three has adjusted yet. There is a "SET" button on the back, but that just tells the clock to set itself. Duh! Once the clocks get the signal, they work fine, but I don't want to wait weeks to know what time it is.

I got sick of waiting for them to adjust, so I ordered three replacements from eBay. I'll have to take them down and adjust the time twice a year, but I will have the correct time on time. I will also replace the batteries then.

I'm retired, nothing I do requires that kind of accuracy. In fact, nothing I've done since leaving the Army requires that kind of accuracy.

If you’re one of the members that’s into ham radio and use digital modes such as FT8, the exact time is critical - anything off more than a second is unworkable and 1/2 sec or less is preferable

You just dated yourself. I remember at TRW, guys with a HP41CV would get into a one-upmanship game by seeing who could get the most memory modules stacked up on theirs. I was an outlaw. I had a TI59 with the desktop printer.

I only have one stand alone clock anymore and it is the only one I need to adjust.
It is difficult for most to read. A few of you on UHH will have no problem, many will be clueless.

Seems simple (and cool) to me.

I have one in my radio station (Ham) and each of my computers change almost instantaneously. I know, I sit up until 2:00 am to check on them!

TriX, you're absolutely correct! Running FT8 my computer, the clock gets adjusted every 15 minutes.

It’s hard to believe, but there are young people out there who can’t tell time by an analog watch or clock. Really want to confuse them; show them 24 hour time. :-)
