Currently I possess a Nikon 7100 with Nikon lens of 18-140 and 55-300 plus a Sigma 150-300 and enjoy it. I shoot mainly wildlife and landscapes
I am however ThINKING of purchasing a OM 1 or a Mark ll but it seems like no one can tell me the difference between the 2 systems. I like the clarity/sharpness of the OM system and know I’ll need a new lens but nothing more. Is it worth a change?
HELP!!

Save your money and buy a Nikon 200~500mm f/5.6! Good used ones can be had for around $750. Nothing wrong with a Nikon 7100 and you won't need to do a lot of cropping. You will have 750mm equivalent.

There's a big difference in both systems and cameras Jim. Nikon APSC vs OM M4/3, DSLR vs Mirrorless. Your 150-300mm Sigma lens gives a 35mm equivalent of 225-450mm on your D7100. A 70-300mm M4/3 lens gives you an equivalent of 140-600mm on an OM body. Clarity/sharpness is more related to the quality of the lens you have than the sensor size/system - consumer grade lenses from both are similar in sharpness - I have a Nikon 18-300mm and an Olympus 12-200mm with little difference in sharpness. I can't afford Pro grade lenses so can't comment on those. My Nikon is a D5300 - same sensor as your D7100 and my M4/3 is a Lumix. They are of similar size and weight. I prefer to use the Nikon mainly because I've been a Nikon shooter since 1969 but the Lumix definitely does far better video (4K) than the Nikon (1080) so I'm keeping both. Cheers JohnR

Does your current system not provide sufficient clarity/sharpness?

Only you can decide if any clarity/sharpness difference is worth the change.

I have a Canon T1i with a Sigma 18-200 as my setup.
But I don't need a clear/sharp image of a gnat's butt at 25 yards.

People will always give recommendations,
but they are based on their needs and desires.

Good luck deciding.

I think you are mistaking this as 2 different items.

I could be wrong.

I would suggest renting an OM body and one good lens for a week and then compare.

The difference in the systems is the sensor size, which has little to do with clarity. It hass more to do with cropping and overall size. The D7100 has an APS-C sensor which has a 1.5 crop factor, the OM 1 has a smaller micro 4/3 (MFT) sensor which has a 2.0 crop factor, making the result look like it was taken with a longer lens.

You can compare the two here (with a D7500 rather than D7100):

But then hes still stuck with an SLR and a silly megalens. The OMmkII has terrific "reach" for his wildlife and 80MP for his landscapes, plus DoF benefits for both genres.

But he could have known that just by reading the specs on the OM Digital website.

So just get a Z6 and keep using that 150-600.

If he wants to indulge in such common sense then why would he post his question to UHH ?

While I would absolutely nevvvvvuh ask UHH about my purchasing options, I do appreciate the entertainment provided by the many who, for their own whatever reasons, will ask here.

I guess it's me that don't have common sense that I never ask which I should buy. Common sense is to get concensus from fellow UHH's members.

The biggest difference you will notice is the size/weight/price of the longer lenses in the m/43 system. Smaller/lighter/less expensive.

Going to mirrorless is a great advantage in some regards. The image stabilization will be a revelation, and if you shoot in foul weather, the OM weather sealing is the best there is. Enjoy whatever you decide.
