Rented an F-mount 80-400 in the past which I liked but never bought. So the first Z mount lens I got for the Z8 was the 100-400 plus the 1.4 teleconverter. Used them at the last F1 race in Austin. Is really good between 135-300mm and okay at 400mm. Never tried it at 560mm for a still subject...yet. I attached what would be an "extreme-ish" example at 560mm, 1/100 sec, ISO-140, -0.3 step of a car at probably close to 150mph.

Looks good! I have the Sigma 150-600, an FTZ adaptor, and the Nikkor Z18-140 to cover a pretty nice range for now. I had kind of planned that I'd be doing without any new (to me) equipment for a while since this purchase cleaned out the camera account. I think I'll certainly be looking at your lens in about a year (I can usually squirrel away a couple hundred a month, so in a year I'll be shopping again. My GAS attacks are pretty predictable.

I really enjoyed reading your post... A lot to reflect on. I hope you don't mind if I copied and saved it ?

Not at all Bob,....,thanks muchly,.....I'm hesitant posting my thoughts here sometimes not wanting to sound opposed or offended about others.
If anything I admire those who have adopted the mirrorless workflow, there's much to be cognizant of once committed,.....where I've been basically doing everything the same over the years,.....focus, f stops, ASA's rather than ISO's, (haven't ever used auto focus even though my camera's and a couple of lenses have it onboard,......wouldn't know where to start,....heck I don't even have a smart phone or know how to use one,...have never used an ATM or a pin # for anything,...remembering passwords challenge me sufficiently,...lol.
I do though like tech things like designing and building my own computers,..shooting RAW files and post processing images to my particular liking and such.
I just turned 80,...and can't believe I'm even saying it,...must have been a typo on my birth certificate,.....ohh,...ohhh,.......that was written in cursive back then,...so must have been illegible hand writting or something??
Nice meeting you here Bob,...be well my friend.

I've had a Z6 for about 4-years. I like it but wanted more resolution, so I went to the Z7II. I don't want to be cliché, but I love it. The photos seem different from anything else I've used and they are GOOD!

It looks new and functions properly, so all that remains is the learning and relearning period and a few accessories to pick up. I already discovered that the comments I've read about third-party batteries not working are true. One old RavPower failed the test while a couple of even older "a" and "b" Nikon branded do work. I think the USB photo transfer might require the "c" version, but I'm unsure. I encountered a couple little hiccups, but they were traceable to that area about an inch and a half to the rear of the sensor.

I was very impressed with a couple of test shots in low light. I'm not used to all that stabilization... it sure helps!

Thanks to all for the comments and encouragement!

Enjoy your new camera niteman. I have a Z7ii and love it. It's an incredible camera! and I am looking forward to seeing your posts with it.

I know this is a relative question but I'm curious about the weight. I am so intrigued by the z7ii but have been carrying a fuji s10 for three plus years. I travel a fair amount and, ahem, am getting up there a bit in years. How much do you notice the weight?

Internet says 705 grams and my kitchen scale says 703 grams or 1lb 8.8oz. (That includes the battery but with no lens or strap.) My Z50 is over 300 grams lighter for comparison.

Yes, have read that. Again, understanding it is relative, is it too bulky for ease of use?

I don't know if there are any camera stores near you, but if you can find one give them a call and ask if they have that model on the shelf. If you can go in the store and handle it yourself that's the best (only) way to know if it will be comfortable in your hands.

Instead, leave them with a very (once) nice and (slightly) worn-out (once) state-of-the-art camera.*

My D5500 with a medium zoom is about 2.5 pounds, the same as the Z7ii. Ergonomically it suits me just fine as do most of Nikon's offerings. I also have all of the D7xxx series and like them as well. I would say the only one I like better for feel is the Z50, but as somebody else pointed out, YMMV. Regarding functionality, I haven't had enough time to decide on likes and dislikes, but so far... great! Trying the Z6 will give you a good feel for it.

I am in my 80th year myself Marty... Thank you for your response. With a disabled wife I don't get out as much as I used to and also amuse myself by shooting in the RAW format and letting my imagination run wild with the post process sliders... BTW, usually OVERPROCESSED ! Anyhoot I also like to play around with my audio gear and am getting involved in building speakers and maybe trying a tube amplifier kit. Just nerdy stuff... Nice to meet congenial folks on the hog. Looking forward to future conversations. Bob

Everything except the monopod has arrived, so now I know that the CFExpress card and its slot and the reader work, I've got plenty of batteries, a new wrist strap, and a David Busch how-to hard copy, so all I need now is some fair weather. I'm not about to complain about the rain... if what we've received in the last month or so had all been snow, we'd be still be shoveling in June.

Glad to hear back on the D7500 Nikon.
My older D40 is ailing (lost autofocus).

The D7500 seems to have everything I need to take photos in my retirement life.
The tilt screen is what I'm liking the most. Have you had any problems with it?
I doubt that I'd use the tilting screen much, but there are times when trying to
take shots over the heads of people standing in front of me, would come in handy.
