A good friend is an avid sportsman. He tells me he has all the guns he needs, but nowhere near the number he wants. He just bought another last week. The disease may be treatable.

Nope, I don't need no stinkin' mirrorless camera and I fer sure don't need no stinkin' full frame. I don't even shoot raw. But they kept it up, they kept showing me stuff till the rationalizer kicked in and my tiny rat brain went to work. What if I get a really good deal on a camera that I really, really want where I can get away with my present lenses for some time to come with no further expense and it will do everything my D7500 and my Z50 will do combined, plus have room for more tricks later if I want to learn them? The pressure was too much. Z7ii on the way. I don't even have the camera yet and I already spent $70 on a memory card (and that was on sale!) and as soon as I get the body to make sure all is well, another $50 or so for a card reader since my old one has no CFExpress type B slot. Might just need another dedicated monopod and maybe a ball head. So much for no further expenses... ah, but then I'll be a really, really great photographer, right? (Did I tell you about the 180-600 they keep showing me?) 😁

Your quote, " I don't need no stinkin' mirrorless camera" yet you already owned a Z50, what gives with your wrongly worded post?

And why do YOU care ?!!??!?

I'm afraid it's not treatable. Just ask Jerry about his UKE collection

My new Z8 “made” me think that now I need “really” fast cards. Found a decent review with test data at https://alikgriffin.com/best-memory-cards-nikon-z8/

I have the same issue, not as many as I want, but many more than I need. I've never hung out at the bar or bowling alley, so I rationalize that the voices in my head who tell me how beautiful the stock is on that Browning Safari are my friends and no further medication is required.

Get ready to part with some more money once you use Z mount lenses and see how nice they are.

I'm considering the 180-600 but the 200-500 is my current super-zoom and most likely will be for a while yet. The 180-600 has one very desirable feature the 200-500 doesn't have. That is the internal zoom feature. The fact that the lens doesn't extend when zooming, makes it better for weather and dust proofing. You will not regret getting the z7ii. I enjoyed using it a lot before selling it to get a z8.

I had the 200-500 and sold it while while waiting for the 180-600 backlog to ease. I was without a long zoom for several months, but after finally having received it, I like it much better than the heavier 200-500. A half-twist of the zoom ring goes from 180 to 600. For the price, it is a great lens.

My uncle always said that if he couldn’t take his money with him, he wasn’t going. Good buy.

Yes, we do say things to ourselves only to sometimes change our mind. If you asked me 6 months ago if I was going to trade in my fantastic Nikon D850 and go mirrorless, I would give you 25 reasons why that was not going to happen. All I can say now is that I'm really enjoying my new Nikon Z8 a lot and hope the new owner of my old D850 is having lots of fun too. Like some of the others on this thread have said, you deserve the new camera (for whatever the reason). :)

Our ability to rationalize is truly incredible. What a bar or bowling alley has to do with acquiring new equipment (of any kind) is beyond me. EXCEPT.... I've used the same convoluted rationalization myself on many occasions.

If no one buys a new camera, there is no resale market for some photographers and eventually there would be no Nikon, Canon, etc. If you are not "taking food off the table or not paying the rent," then opting to buy a new piece of photography equipment is just fine.

Well, yes and no. I almost always buy new peripherals and accessories, but cameras and computers I occasionally buy used, but mostly refurbished. This camera is refurbished from UsedPhotoPro/RobertsCamera via Ebay. So I get the Roberts 6-month warranty plus a year of Allstate's aftermarket warranty, Ebay's warranty, and PayPal's warranty on a mint condition camera for $1721 delivered to my door including tax. New from NikonUS would have been $2750 or so including tax. In this case, I just couldn't resist the combination of features and price. Those marketing gurus are very, very tricky.

What I'd like to find out is where "refurbished" cameras come from... returns, stores that couldn't sell them QC rejects from the production line, or is it just a sneaky way to sell new stock at a greater discount than otherwise allowed? I've never been able to tell a new camera or computer from the refurbished ones.

It sounds like you've made an exciting decision to upgrade to the Z7ii! Investing in new equipment to enhance your photography can be both thrilling and a bit overwhelming with additional expenses. It's great that you're looking forward to exploring the capabilities of your new camera and the possibilities it offers for your photography journey. The 180-600 lens definitely sounds tempting! Enjoy your new gear and have fun capturing amazing shots with it!

I think it's a variation on the theme I use to stay clear of the dog house... But honey, I don't drink or drive fast cars or hunt or gamble or play golf. All I do is take pictures. It's cheap when you look at it that way. I don't think she falls for it, but as long as I'm still out running around I know she's at least buying some part of my line... right?
