If you have dx lenses get the Z50 which is mirrorless then an adapter...
You'll need an adapter to use F mount lenses on the Z bodies. You have a cropped body and you're switching to a full frame body. With an adapter you can mount those crop lenses, but you may not like the end result.

Your DX lenses will work on your Z camera using the F2Z adapter. The camera will automatically go into DX mode, using only a portion of the full frame sensor. I went from D 7000 to Z 7ii and have been unable to to find an override to keep it in FX mode.
Unfortunately, there is no manual override on the Z cameras to keep it in FX. Once you attached a DX camera, it automatically goes into DX mode and stays there. That being said, 10mb is more than adequate unless you plan to print very large photos, posters, or billboards.

Orrrr .... the Z6 dives down further in price and thus becomes the default best buy.
The Z6 model I is no longer being sold by "reputable" stores. So unless this store has an old model I that it is trying to get rid of, it should be a model II. If it is a model I, for sure it should be heavily discounted. Whether that makes it a "best buy" isn't clear to me, there are improvements in the II that one wouldn't get.
B&H which I think a reputable store still sell the Z6 refurbished.

Ok, refurbished, not new. To me that is a used camera. What is the warranty on a B&H refurbished camera?
PS. Is the camera the OP described new or refurbished? If the latter, I would have thought they would have said that. If it is being sold as a new camera, then it must have sat around for a long time.

Nikon refurbished has 90 days warranty.
Wow, some really fantastic replies that I truly appreciate. Lots of food for thought. Yes, I’m looking at the Z6 II as it’s on sale until 03/03/2024 but didn’t know of the possibility of a Z6 III. I’m planning on giving my D7200 to my grandson and I have three lenses for it so perhaps using the Z adapter isn’t the best option for me. That’s why I posted the question and I now have some great information. Thank you all for sharing your thoughts. Now to figure out what to do!!!

I use both so I know the difference. Best buy doesnt mean best camera it means only exactly what it says. If one can enjoy major savings for lack of minor improvements thaz whaz meant by best buy. Acoarst if theres no great backlog of unsold Z6s then the savings wont be so major :-(

Attempting to go from Nikon D7200 to Nikon Z6 and totally confused about what I’ve been told. Person at Photo shop says i absolutely cannot use my current Nikon DX lens on the Z6. Others say i can use them with the Z mount attachment but i will lose resolution and it will be cropped differently. So, what’s the truth?
DUDE, you can use your current DX lenses on the Z6. With the adapter.

You can use those lenses on the Z6, but only with the Ftz adapter. The Z6 is a full frame camera, your D7200 is not. The result will be the same as putting a DX lens on ax FX body. There are probably more technical answers and I do not consider myself expert enough to offer that advice.
The only other issue might be with autofocus compatibility. AF-S lenses, for instance, should be fine. D glass won’t autofocus, but exposure is ok.
Kenrockwell.com has a good compatibility chart.
On the other hand, my experience with Z glass has been excellent.

Perhaps a better question is why would you want to spend the money on a Full Frame camera, if the only lens you have will only use less than half of the sensor?
Going to a full frame digital camera can be a stepping stone. Not everyone can jump in with both feet, but can still plan ahead.

As has been already mentioned, you can use your DX lenses with the FTZ adapter BUT you loose pixels and you will have a crop factor of 1.5. There will be no distortions. My advise, do not do it.
If you go to a full frame body, like the Z6, my best advice is that you buy Z lenses for that particular camera for the best performance.
Incidentally, the D7200 is an excellent tool and you have already the lenses, why getting now into a new and expensive camera and lenses? It is true that mirrorless has new and better technologies but before you spend your money consider the type of photography that you do because a new camera will not give you better images.
The benefits of the Z system are the improvements in the new lenses. If you don’t acquire the new S line of lenses to go with your Z6 you really are wasting your time and money. Remember camera bodies are considered consumables, the lenses are going to last you a long, long time. Also you’re asking about matching a full frame camera with crop format lenses which seems like a losing proposition.
