I was on a grand jury team a few years ago, we had 300+ cases to hear witnesses and law enforcement statements. Our job was to hear the facts and determine whether to send them on for trial or to dismiss the case. It was a very interesting 10-12 days. We had cases that was about everything from child support to rape and murder. Biggest amount was for drug dealing. Just proves there are some total idiots that walk among us and vote.

I served as the foreman on the jury where we had to determine the guilt/innocence of a suspected murderer. He was guilty. We then had to decide whether or not to recommend the death penalty. We did not recommend it. For me, it was quite stressful at times. I remember when the guilty verdict was read, a woman tossed a baby into the air, a lot of screams and disruption. Two years later, the conviction was thrown out due to a technicality. He was retried and found guilty again. I’m glad that I served, but I don’t ever want to go through something like that again.

We no billed about 15% of the cases.the last case we had was a man who was having sex with a couple of 10 year old girls.the assistant district attorney wanted to set bail at $500,000 but we thought he could make bail or possibly get it reduced by the judge and we felt he was a possibly flight risk.he actually had video of his acts.(something that was not pleasant to watch) we decided to impose a $2,000,000 bail which the judge reduced to $500,000.he got sent to prison for a very long time.at the end of our day all the news media was waiting to ask question but didn't get any answers.the assistant district attorney spoke to the media for a few minutes.

Friend of mine years ago said he had a sure-fire way of getting out of it..."I just told the DA: 'Send that guilty SOB in here. We'll take care of it." Told me it always worked...

A number of years ago I was called to jury duty in my county. Told 'em I had an enlarged prostate (BPH) and had to hit the latrine frequently and waved my doctor's note at 'em.,. They called me over and said I was permanently excused from jury duty; still live in the same county, haven't heard from them since. Before that I was called to duty in Denver; sat around for two weeks and played bridge with strangers.

I'll be glad to serve if they want me, although it will interfere with my postings here.

Probably will.....there may be instructions to the jurors to not discuss nor disclose facts and information of the case to anyone.

😊 😊 😁

I received a notice from the County Clerk telling me that I'm on the list of potential jurors. I filled out the lengthy form online, and I'll see what happens. They know my date of birth, so they know I'm almost 80, if that makes any difference.

I was called about thirty years ago, and I was looking forward to being on a jury, but I was dismissed. My son was on a grand jury, and he found that very interesting. He was surprised that the drug dealers were so well educated and so well spoken.

I was called and picked while living in Forida back in '84(?) and ended up as the foreman. I was not impressed with that duty. Nothing more until I had lived in Pennsylvania and was retired. I've been called four times since 2001 and never picked. Once was excused because my wife had had her purse stolen from inside our house (long story), another time was excused because I had worked in prisons and felt I may be biased in favor of law enforcement and negative toward the defendant (it was a burglary thing again) and last couple times due to my hearing impairment (hearing loss and tinnitus). I've not been called for around 6 or 8 years now. Probably get called net month now.

I think that judges hear this sort of thing all of the time and are probably annoyed by it. It might cause a confrontation with a judge.

There is a whole lot of preliminary stuff that took place in the couple weeks before actually being instructed to be at the courthouse for a selection of jurors for a case.

After more preliminary stuff to start the selection process the day I was to show up at the court, the attorneys for prosecution and defense each asked each potential juror questions about different things.
To me, the absolutely most annoying thing about that was the potential juror sitting two rows behind me, who spoke up at the conclusion of questioning of each person with the stories about the three times he'd had jury duty through the years......he'd "been voted jury foreman for every case they heard, and they had convicted in every case."
It was more than tiresome to hear his self-inflated, egotism after the first time, to say nothing of all the repetitions.

Neither attorney nor the judge instructed him to zip it, and I was sitting there seething.....biting my tongue, clenching my jaws, digging finger nails into my palms, trying to breathe deeply and slowly, willing myself to stay seated - eyes forward.....barely able to contain my irritation with that dude, and not stand up - turn around - and rip him a new one - to clearly inform him it was unlikely anyone except himself had any slight interest in his obese ego.

After the attorneys completed their questioning of each person, the prosecuting attorney gave a short story about how his wife had told him just that morning that he is so gullible. He was chuckling about it, telling it in an almost stand-up comedian fashion, and trying to get someone in the jury pool to respond if they thought he is gullible, or not......no one responded to him.

After a couple more remarks about how he does not believe he is gullible, he pointed directly at me, gave the assigned juror number that had been given to me, and told the judge he would like to have me dismissed from consideration for that case..... "without cause".

The judge sincerely thanked me for my time, thanked me for very forthright, genuine answers to the questions from the attorneys, told me to call that phone# each Sunday evening for the duration of the weeks I was to be available for jury duty, and I was dismissed for that week.

For the remainder of the weeks that I had to call that phone# , I was not again instructed to show up for jury selection.

My hearing problem got me off in California. Actually, it is a good thing because even with hearing aids, it is hard to pick up all talking which could be a HUGE problem if you are a juror since jurors can not interrupt and ask them to repeat.

Over the years I've been called to jury duty several times, but I've only been picked for a jury twice. The first time it was a case of someone having stolen credit cards, but the case was very weak. It was a young man, in his early 20's, who's brother, who was coming home on leave from the Army, asked him to pick up his car that he had stored at a friends garage while he was gone. Anyway, on his way back from the garage to his house he got stopped for a burned-out tail light and the cops saw a leather portfolio on the floor in the back seat and the kid let them search the car and they found a bunch of stolen credits cards. Now the portfolio was dusty so it had been there a while, but it couldn't have been his brother who stole them because he was in boot camp when the cards were stolen. Anyway, the kid was arrested and it appears that the police never talked to the guy who owned the garage where the car had been stored (they claimed that he never answered his phone and they never followed-up). At the trial they charged the kid with having stolen credit cards, but it was obvious that it wasn't him or his brother, which left the garage owner whom the police never found. It was short trail and when we went to deliberate 10 of us said that there was no way that the state had proven it's case and we voted to acquit but there were two holdouts who insisted that the kid was guilty since the cards were technicality in his possession (even though it was obvious that he had no idea that the leather portfolio was on the floor of the back seat). Also, the kid was Hispanic and the holdouts implied that of course he was guilty, what did we expect. Anyway, it ended-up as a hung jury, but the judge decided to throw the case out (he even apologized because he said he should have never let it go as far as it did because it was obvious that the police didn't do their job).

The other case i was selected as a juror, the morning that the trial was to start, they had apparently had made a deal and we sat in the jury room for a couple of hours before the judge came in and explained what happened (no details just that there wasn't going to be a trail and we were thanked and dismissed). This was some sort of drug possession case, but of course we didn't get any details, one way or the other.

I was almost called for another jury, which was a manslaughter case, but the defense attorney refused to accept me based on the fact that I had previously served on a hung jury. He claimed that this may have tainted my opinion of the jury system and used one of his challenges to unseat me.

Why can't scumbags just accept that they did the deed and plead guilty ? They all seem to think that if they plead not guilty that they will get away with it. It is almost as if you can work out their IQ from their plea. Or in some cases the IQ of their lawyers.

I think it as much human nature, and a bad upbringing, as anything... and the lawyer just wants to be employed and get his house and car payment.

I have been called Twice this year, the first time I really wanted to be on this jury, but then the defendant twas so disruptive when they ask if I could be impartial To be truthful I answered no, the judge ask why? I answered because I have worked around too many like him. The second time the Defendant copped a plea.
