I'm a fully licensed sUAS ("drone") operator. A common criticism is that they can be used for invasion of privacy. That's certainly possible, but completely unethical. I can do more "invasion" with a typical wildlife telephoto lens. Legal or not, either is completely unethical and plain wrong.

Privacy cannot be "invaded" when a person is out in public. I get a kick out of people who cover their license plates when they post pictures of their cars. Do they drive around like that?

Interesting situation. Someone posted a video of an emotionally disturbed naked woman screaming in a local town. As soon as authorities learned of the video, it was taken down. They are investigating to see if they can find out who posted it. As the police said, since the event took place in the public, criminal charges would not apply. It's good that public photography is protected, but people should use some discretion about what to post.

And so should naked women. Screaming is not attractive. Well, it is, but not in a good way. Singing an aria, maybe.

You missed something my dear friend. You mentioned that a person who appeared to have a medical (psychiatric) illness needed professional attention. Did anyone “step up to the plate” and help this person? I do hope someone made an attempt to get this person medical attention. Sadly, many people run away from such scenarios! Our hospital is known to help these patients get the care they need.

Separate scenario, unrelated to photography in public.......

I was thinking along the same lines. Intent and audience play a part.

Who are “they?” Cops don’t investigate non-crimes.

I failed to mention that I agree with others regarding common decency in what to photograph and what to post. I have seen many instances where people record full on assaults on people rather than taking action. Sad.

Perhaps, I misunderstood the scenario. I am sorry if I did. Photography is important. There are some instances that are more important. Please accept my apology.

There was no mention of what happened to the woman, but her family didn't like having the video posted.

The key is "can be".

Ethics, morals, and scruples play a lot.
Something may people no longer have.

In a different thread today, a similar discussion is taking place about petty theft. Morality and ethics in this country have gone to hell in a probably stolen handbasket.

I don’t really think morality and ethics have changed. Those bad actors have always existed. Everything is just more visible now. I remember stories from 50 years ago about women being raped while bystanders did nothing to stop it. The only difference now is instead of just watching they record it.
