Hey jerry, what year was that? 1890? LOL...

1960, 70s. They closed in 2020. I think the first price I saw was $1.19 for the dinner.

There is still a Tad's in San Francisco. The steak dinner is $27.99.

EAting out is EATING OUT! You got to pay for the experience of not cooking cleaning or rushing the hopefully good food out to the diners. I'm not a rich man but part of the romantic link I have with my wife is treating her to her favorite restaurant experience.

"Take Out" can be equally as romantic - sort of.

I don't eat out as often as I used to, but last night my son and I went to a new local eatery. We each got a cheeseburger with onion rings. I wanted fries, but I wound up with onion rings. The $8.00 hamburger for each of us produced a bill totaling $28.62. This is one reason why I don't eat out very often. Apparently, the $8.00 covered only the hamburger. The list of things below it all included an extra charge, unbeknownst to me. I don't know if paying by CC added to the bill because I didn't get a receipt. I'll continue to eat at home.

At most places you could get a burger and fries for about $14. So maybe isn’t quite as expensive as you thought. Besides being with your son. You have some entertainment value. Now aren’t you glad money well spent

Just as eating in your car can also be equally as romantic - sort of.

I remember Tad's! There was one on 42nd St not far from the greatest library in the world. Sliding my tray down the line, pointing to this and that and then dealing with the rather leather-like steak. Tad's was one of the reasons I switched over to vegetarianism and then (Oh No!) on to vegan where I am comfortably enjoying my 83rd year baking tofu and steaming my broccoli!
Thanks for the memories! "Rich" was my temporary doppelganger.

"...burger and fries for about $14" is not in my plans. I never did eat out very much, except for the occasional restaurant meal - no MacDonalds or Burger King. When Covid hit, I stopped any kind of eating out. With a $14 hamburger being the norm, I'll continue to eat at home. I can buy several pounds of chop meat for $14.

Eating out is always more expensive than cook the meal yourself. When you can have hamburger for $5 you could buy several pounds of chop meat for $5 too.

By cooking at home, I can spend my money on cameras, computers, and ukuleles. When I drive into town, I see cars lined up to buy a $5.00 cup of coffee as I drink the $0.10 mug of coffee in my cup holder.

You meant Starbucks? I do buy coffee from Starbucks and don't mind paying the extra but... the coffee I made taste better. I only buy coffee at coffee shop when I am lazy.
