I believe I saw it mentioned in a UHH post. I couldn't tell you exactly who/when or what the original thread was about. I brought it up to see what others would say.

Interesting. Maybe I'll start smashing the card into the camera.

I didn't want to right out and say that, but you'd better start reading reviews about the current crop of cameras.

I simply plug my phone into the computer and the phone becomes another drive.
I go to the photo directory in the phone and copy the images to the computer. Easy.
The phone is always on during the day anyway.
I have a spare phone cable next to the computer.

I wanted to download all the photos from my phone but when I plugged it into the computer, it did not show as another drive. Is there a setting that is required to be turned on for this to happen?

Why would anyone use a card reader when there are more direct ways to load photos onto a computer, like using a USB cable?

I use a card reader all the time. My card readers all come with cables.

Just use the card reader.

The CF card slot if you are not carefull you can bend the pins inside the slot. With SD card I see no problem there.

My cameras charge batteries in camera. I plug the camera into a USB-C PD charger, and then pull the card for transfer of images.

Depends on the phone.
My Galaxy S-21 wants privileges granted for the computer to see the phone, but the phone screen did not come on by itself to show the request. It took a minute or five to figure that out. I had to tap the phone screen to see the request, and grant it.

Why? Has the quality gone down in the current crop?

Sounds like a problem with one not being careful regarding CF card insertion, not wear.

An old subject with many preferences from each one of the readers. I find the usb cable more reliable in my opinion , opening the camera door and taking the card out it could very easily be scratched, and then replace it back in the camera, those are few steps more than plugging the cable into the camera. Some saying something about running the battery low, this could happen as we taking photos. My usb cable is always plugged into to my computer, not a big deal!

Scratched? How? Are you saying that cards are damaged in some way as a result of this "scratching"? In all the years I've been doing this, I have never noticed an SD card ever being scratched, and certainly not damaged by removing and reinserting it into my camera body or my card reader. I've never had an SD card fail on me yet. The only reason I have acquired new ones over time has been for their greater speed or capacity.

The only cards I avoided taking out of my camera bodies alot were the older compact flash cards due to the possibility of pins in the camera getting bent when reinserting the card, although I personally never personally had that problem.

I never used the USB cable that came with my Nikon Df. I wonder if I use it often can I buy a replacement when it breaks?

Is there a Share option on your phone? Maybe you can send an Album.

That would depend on whether it's some sort of proprietary cable designed specifically for that camera and no longer made. However, I would be surprised about that. It is more than likely you could find a cable to replace it.

I have some cameras that require with very small connectors - annoying.
