LOTSa bits more!

Our first little house in 1977 was about 34K, Zillow has it for 321K now.
Our second house in 1979 was about 45K, now 400K.....

That's great! However, if you want to buy another house, you won't get one for 45K.

Our first house, 1250 sq ft was $23,000.00 Sold it for $45,000.
Second house, 2000 sq ft cost $70,000.00. Put $30,000 down, $15,000 mortgage. Sold it for $600,000.
Third house (condo) 1900 sq ft. Cost $280,000. (We moved from California to New Hampshire.)

Wow. inexpensive?

One special place near us where we get two burgers, fries, cup of a fantastic soup, and two cheesecake deserts was about $60.

I wouldn’t feel too bad about that if I thought the waitstaff got a good chunk of that, but I doubt they do.

Here is the bottom line. In 2017, our broker informed us, that with the taxes and cost of living in California going up the way it had been, we would, in 3 years, (2020) be totally BROKE. So we moved.

I don't eat out as often as I used to, but last night my son and I went to a new local eatery. We each got a cheeseburger with onion rings. I wanted fries, but I wound up with onion rings. The $8.00 hamburger for each of us produced a bill totaling $28.62. This is one reason why I don't eat out very often. Apparently, the $8.00 covered only the hamburger. The list of things below it all included an extra charge, unbeknownst to me. I don't know if paying by CC added to the bill because I didn't get a receipt. I'll continue to eat at home.

And here's another thing: tip inflation! It makes no sense to me. I can understand the food getting more expensive, but why should I be expected to tip a larger percentage of the inflated price?

Are you trying to become the UHH head grumpo?

Are you aware that the major economies of the world including yours and mine have established a 2% inflation rate as where it should be?

Calculate 1970 to 2024, 54 years at compound interest and it will get you to a guaranteed "prices are sure going up" as a statement of truth and happy GDP ing.

The USA needs more restaurants so the minimum wage has somewhere to be used.

I hope you left a generous tip? No not 10%, those days are long gone.

Local people are complaining online about the high price of housing - rentals and sales. That's a nationwide problem, though. Rentals are ridiculously high, so local people who can't afford $500,000 for a house can't afford $2,000/month rent, either.

I received an email from a local realtor this morning showing local houses and their prices. $400,000 - $500,000 for a moderate house was typical. Want a large house or a nice house? Plan on spending over $1,000,000. I moved here 57 years ago and bought this house for $10,000. I wouldn't be able to afford it today.
