These are beautiful pictures of a wonderful part of the world. By the way, did you see Heidi and Peter? Oh, wrong country!

Excellent set, Joe. The geologic site in #10 is so interesting - WOW, still standing. The walkways are not for the faint of heart. But, apparently safe, as you had family with you. The light on the mountain top in #9 was stunning. Always special when the light is just right. Luv'em all.

Stunning vista's, and beautifully captured! Looks like a very exciting place to explore!

Thank you very much Doug - yes, this is a beautiful mountain area with plenty of valleys to explore - in this canton there is also the famous Matterhorn mountain, which we did not visit on this particular trip.

Thanks Kathy - it is a wonderful part of the world and of Switzerland. I like your question - and no, I did not see Heidi and Peter, though this IS the right country, just the wrong canton - the Heidi story took place in the canton Grison, a couple of hundred kilometers to the East.

Thank you Rowedean, I am happy to hear that you enjoyed this set from a very special canton in Switzerland. It has all these spectacular mountains (remember the Matterhorn that we didn't even visit on this trip?), valleys and villages, it produces great wines and is basically the fruit orchard of Switzerland, especially known for its apricots. And then all these hikes along the "Bisses" as I have shown a couple, and the gondola-rides up to high alpine meadows, it truly is a magic place!

For the remainder of this series, I am now switching back to SWITZERLAND. I start off with a set of images taken during our spring trip in the Valais, a large mountain canton in the southwestern corner of Switzerland. With the families of our children, we rented a nice wooden chalet at the edge of the fashionable mountain resort CRANS-MONTANA, well situated to make short drives into other mountain valleys or hikes in the greater vicinity of the town, some of which I will present in my images below. One of the very interesting and unique features in this part of Switzerland are the BISSES/Ancient Irrigation Channels constructed under very dangerous conditions hundreds of years ago to funnel water to dry areas. Parallel hiking paths have been constructed to a number of these Bisses, and we hiked some of these, as illustrated below.

I provide a few links to related topics covered in Wikipedia or other media:

Thanks for the additional photo. That sure was a magnificent hike.
Re Uluru: I can’t imagine climbing it! We walked around the base of it early in the morning. Climbing was no longer allowed in 2008 when we were there, but neither of us would have climbed it anyway. Youth has its advantages!

Yes, we visited the Ayers Rock/Uluru in 1983 towards the end of our stay in Hong Kong, at that time it was still possible to climb it and nobody gave this any thought and while it required concentration so as not to slip, otherwise it wasn't a superhuman feat - and were we still young? - well maybe then at the age of close to 40 we might not have thought so, but now in hindsight at the age of 80, yes, I guess we were still young!
